a few flowers and brugs with sick leaves

The first one is a pretty little red hibiscus with the chartreuse sweet potatoe vine. The next it what happens when you get little green worms overnight. The next is Jim's plants bud just beginning to drop, the next is Karyn's morning glory vine then there is the back bed so I could remember what it looks like in case it gets storm damaged. The next is a plumie and a rose, the next is what my loaded with buds noid looked like after all the yellow leaves fell off after I sprayed it. Then what it looked like right the next day I sprayed and all the leaves turned yellow. Then pod on shredded white and datura with green spider. Then the next two are funky leaves from Day Dreams, the reason I sprayed. They all died and fell off. The next one is some cute flower blooming in the bed that has lips, lol. After that is the variegated hibiscus. Looks better loaded with blooms. Then the tacoma stans and after that I don't know what they are. i would especially like to know what the last one is with the red and black berries. I will check back in later. Mercedes is very sick all of a sudden. Having a hard time breathing and wining and following me around all over like do something Mom but I don't know whats wrong. I think its her heart again. We will be going to the vet in the am now I guess. Poor dog. If I'm back on later its because she got worse and I can't sleep if she is feeling bad.

Love the first pic, the potato vine really makes the hibiscus pop. I see some nice size brugs in your flower bed, can't wait to see those in bloom. Pretty plumera, does it have a nice scent? Great shot of the rose bud. Your spider seems like the same type of spider I had on a plant here, do you know what kind it is? Don't know what the hot pink flowers are in the next to last pic, but I like them. Can't make out the last one to make an ID on it.

I hope your doggie gets well soon. Is she an older dog? Lets hope she just ate something that didn't agree with her and she'll be fine tomorrow. I know how upsetting it is when our dogs don't feel good. We can't ask them were it hurts and then we feel bad because we don't know what to do to make them feel better. I do hope she feels better tomorrow.

kristy, I hope Mercedes is feeling better and you are getting some sleep!!!! Your plants look great. Is the last plant some kind of pepper? I have something that looks like that but I can't tell from the picture.

Stop the misting, they do not require that.. I would not be keeping the soil damp either. I am wondering if perhaps your temps are a bit chilly for them yet or perhaps they are getting sunburned being outside..the yellowing is almost always a sign of too much water..if you are going to place them outside, try to put them in a protected area where they will not get beat up by wind or cooked by sun as it does not take long for them to be damaged.. they will recover quickly with less watering and more protection... you mentioned that they were this way before you transplanted them, so I also wonder if they were too close to a window pane and could have gotten scalded? less water, more protection while outside would be my remedy for you.

I just put out brug and datura seedlings a few weeks ago. POtted them up, one to a pot about 18" diameter. Mulched with bark mulch. I was amazed to see something has been eating mine too. I thought they were poisonous and nothing would touch them??! I haven't seen a bug on them during the day so they must be getting eaten at night. I also have had a few other plants in the yard being eaten..eggplant for one and just a few small holes in the datura. Another poisonous plant..no dead bugs lying around. I got sick of it and made up a spray today. I wouldn't use Sevin or other non organic solution, because it can kill the beneficial bugs and in the long run, it just perpetuates the problems. I make up a spray of garlic, hot pepper, oil and soap and use that as a general insect control. I just put some on today and will see if it makes any difference. I will also head out there with a flashlight at night to see if I can catch the culprit. Today, I went out to find the best looking datura, leaning all the way over in it's pot. I went to check it, and something had attacked it at the base, and chewed up the main stem and it was lying on it's side. The leaves were in perfect shape and had not been touched. I can't figure out for the life of me what could have done that during the day. Sometimes, don't you wish you had a video surveillance system set up around the yard? [g]

don't panic! it _doesn't_ look like mosaic to me - the leaves would be way more deformed and yellowed. also you mentioned that some were doing this last year, and then got better - mosaic stricken plants don't just "get better" :) you should likely separate it from the rest of the brugs until it improves as a precaution, but it's pretty unlikely. what this speaks of to me more than anything is inconsistency. are they getting a lot of water some days, and then little other days? have the pots stayed in the same place, or have they been moved to different areas with different light? have they been fertilized consistently? and how does this compare with how they were cared for last year? are there any patterns? there are a number of possible factors that you can narrow down by process of elimination. first, how much light does your plant get? I see that it's next to a wall... I had a double peach that curled and drooped and yellowed a little like that when the light was insufficient. if it's not that, then you may have accidentally overfertilized and burned the roots. or, paradoxically, it could be that the slow release fertilizer is releasing too slowly and you could have a deficiency :P you may even have mites that are too small to see. personally, I'd flush the soil really well with lots of water and strip off most of the lower leaves. give the small remaining leaves a good bath, even a gentle finger scrub with a mild soap in case there are mites that you can't see, too. and then, most importantly, leave it alone and see what it does :) watch the new growth over the next couple weeks, and keep us updated! good luck! Hi and welcome. I'm surprised that your brugs survived this long with so little water. I also have had to water my container plants daily, sometimes more then once. Why don't you plant your brugs in the yard? They are so much easier to care for and grow better inground. They'll die back when it gets cold but will return in the spring in your zone. I wouldn't feed them now while they are stressed but I would give them a few doses of Superthrive and/or B1 over the next couple weeks. Once they've put out new foliage you can begin feeding weekly or biweekly along with daily watering during the growing season. If you plant them in the yard they probably won't need water daily but in a container they will. If your soil was holding enough water that they didn't need daily watering in high heat then your soil might not be well draining enough. Brugs like lots of water but they don't like their roots to remain wet as it will lead to rot. Good luck. With a little TLC your plants should bounce back.

The blooms are beautiful. That MG is a Moonflower. The brug leaves do look kind of funky. Is the new foliage normal looking?

I'll have to take another pic of the last one. It has round red and black berries. I was outside with Mercedes when I took those because she was restless and kept wanting to go outside so I took the camera and we went out for a while. I wish I had known what was going to happen I would have taken a last pic of her but its better to remember her when she was well. Yes she was old and her heart gave out. She has been on heart meds for a a few months and the vet didn't tell me that it would only work for a little while. He wasn't surprised when I called him at 2:30 this morning and said to just let her go there was nothing more to be done for her. Enough about the sad part. The red plumie smells just like deep red roses. The really big brug in the bed out back is Naughty Nick. He lost all his buds when it got hot again. No Karyn, the new leaves look funky on the Daydreams but the others that got burned look ok now that they lost the affected leaves. Do you think I should destroy the Daydreams? I am now worried it might be a virus.

The narrowed leaf looks like broadmites. Time to break ou the big guns. If the yellowing splotchy leaves are only on the older bottom leaves & not the new ones, it should be fine. As usual, just keep an eye on it. Your other pictures are looking good. Way to go!

Kristy, don't those moonflowers smell great?? Everything looks so pretty..well, except for the sick leaves, lol. Hope they get better for you. Love the color on that plumie.
