need help picking an exterior color for our patio door
Comments (3)Here's a pic of the front of the house (this is an old photo--the tree is dead and gone): I don't have a pic of the back of the house but right now it's just a narrow deck with an awning that is about 1/2 the length of the house. After we get the kitchen remodeled this is our next project. We plan on ripping the deck down and replacing it with a screened porch (our house overlooks a swath of public forest, which is beautiful, but buggy). The patio doors will open onto this porch. I think a nice dark color would be nice, but should the color of the door match the rest of the windows? If you click the link you can get to a set of inside pics. It's completely open now. Thinking about painting it Elephant's Breath by Farrow and Ball. Jen...See MoreHelp Me Pick Kitchen/Family Room Window Treatments
Comments (21)Hi Malhgold! I have the exact same reaction everytime I see your kitchen. My heart goes--YES!! I have a sample of the gray imperial trellis you just posted. It has been in my group of favorite fabrics I might use in the new kitchen or maybe the FR, LV or DR. Specific, huh? ;-) All the rooms have gray or grayish (not every room is the same color) walls. The second fabric is fun and energetic! Since I'm assuming that very little of the whole pattern will show when the shades are up, I could see that pattern working. The coral-ish shades pick up those in the family room(?). And could you please tell me about that last pattern? I think the colors might be right for my DD's room. Thanks! Can't wait to see what you decide! And maybe that means you'll be getting closer to an all out kitchen reveal? :-)...See MoreBad smell after install of patio doors.
Comments (11)Mightyanvil, Thank you so much for your response. The smell you describe is pretty right on, and it is definitely coming from the attic. We have gable end vents, 6 roof vents, but only 3 soffit vents, and they are all in one small spot. Our house has no overhangs except in our patio area and that is where the one and only soffit is. The smell comes down through the attic trap door. How can I fix this? any ideas? My husband wants to use a sealer around the trap door, he thinks that will stop the smell from coming down into our living area. I want to make another insulation blanket to lay over the trap door in the attic. We had one but the guys who did the insulation used it to add to the insulation when they were up there. I thought the blanket worked great. My concern is why are we smelling wet insulation? We have no roof leaks. When I look up there I do not see condensation. Do I need to put a fan up there? How could I do that safely? Thanks for your help....See MoreNeed UV protection on patio doors. Which option?
Comments (12)Ok, I'll nix the fabric panel options. Leaning toward new lined woven romans. Tibb & Bpahome - I'll read up on the window films but I think it would be very hard to get right on a large space. Bumps or creases would really bother me. Rose - Well you're hip and my grammy wouldn't use those either. :) I can come up with some doozies when tired. I find my eye goes often to the wide span of white 2" blinds in my LR and I don't care for it, but that ended up being the best/most practical option for us in their. White woven - hmm.. you mean like bleached? I didn't realize they made shutters for patio doors until I was searching window treatments. I even found some magnetic blind options I didn't know they made. I was thinking our basement door, but the reviews were saying the magnet wasn't strong enough to raise and lower without pulling down. Nice idea though. Tina - The blinds are from Home Depot, but I know they made separate liners (saw at Lowes) you can attach to existing shades. I never got around to buying them before because I wanted the light not realizing my stuff is fading. All our windows are actually low-e. They're Anderson and whatever ones they are do nothing for sun protections. :( If we ever replace (I'm hoping move) I'll be researching the heck out of windows....See MoreAngela Smith
