Help Choosing Peach Variety

I have always been conservative and grown the "easy" fruit trees - figs, mulberries, persimmon. I have been thinking for a couple of years of growing a peach tree or 2 and maybe some plums. I was going to order online from a recommended vendor, but I happened to be in Lowe's yesterday and they have a few varieties of peaches. It would be nice to save on shipping if it's worthwhile. Lowe's has Belle of Georgia, Hale Haven, Elberta, and Early Elberta. I think that's all they have. I have been researching online trying to decide whether or not to buy one of these. There is a lot of conflicting info out there about everything from taste, reliable fruiting, disease resistance and growth rate. I am mostly interested in in fresh eating and making a few pies. I like sweet and "melty" flesh. Thanks for any suggestions and advice.
