WANTED: Ruby Glo, Alata, or Whatever You Call It.
Comments (2)I bought P. alata seeds off Ebay last January from josam5. They were very inexpensive and easier to germinate than any other Passie seed I've tried. They produced numerous, huge vines outdoors here in Indiana which grew between 10-25 feet at least. I wish I had rooted some when I had to cut them all back to bring them in this September, but was very busy at the time. Otherwise, I'd be happy to trade. All I can advise is trying to get them going from seed. Good luck!...See MoreSungold, $2.99 for 8 seeds, are they worth it?
Comments (32)Pennyrile, yes I have had slow to sprout seeds later sprout when I planted something else in the potting soil, but it is usually easy to tell which seedling was the slow starter because it will come up in a different place then where I planted the new seed. I always dump the potting soil I am going to reuse in a big bin I use to store it and mix it up so usually the seed will be buried really deep when I reuse it. I have even had slow to sprout seeds finally sprout after I transplanted the new seedling out into the garden. Your comment about packed for 2009 brings to mind a question. Was that seed actually produced in 2008 for sale in 2009 or is it old seed from previous years that was tested and repacked? The reason I ask is I asked Armstrong if they had any year old seed they were selling at a discount and they said no, they send all unsold seed back to the vendor. But what does the vendor do with it? Do they throw it away, or test it for germination rate, put it in a new package, and resell it, or maybe sell it to cut rate seed companies, or mix it with some fresh seed and resell it, or what?...See MoreKeep the old fridge as 2nd fridge worth it?
Comments (9)I's probably more energy efficient that the Sub Zero that you are replacing it with. If you can use the extra storage, and remember that built ins actually have less storage than a freestanding fridge, then there is nothing wrong with keeping a fairly new refrigerator. I'd even find a way to hook up the ice maker, because you won't be getting one with the Sub Zero. Now, if this is a 30 year old fridge, it probably will use a bit more energy than a new model of even a non Energy Star rated fridge like a Sub Zero. But, if it's lasted 30 years, it's also likely to keep going without too many issues as well....See MoreI love Laticrete 255! It's SO worth it!
Comments (3)Hm, durings? Hm.....I'll see... :) And bill, that's fascinating that other 'non-sag' thinsets don't live up to their name as much as 255 does. That's the kind of experience that sends people over to HD for 'whatever's cheapest'. But true professional Laticrete is used by *true* pros for a reason. You have to figure that *true* (vs. the other kind) pros wouldn't spend any money they don't have to in order to get a lasting, quality end product, but by the same token they don't want to be called back for failure from cheap installation. So I figure it's always safest to buy what the true pros, like you, buy... I do think you might want to consider writing a book to help folks like us and to make sure other DIYers have access to some of the great advice you've given here and at JB over the years. Just an e-book, like another famous tilesetter...I think the world's big enough. I'd prefer fewer beer jokes than that other book, though :)...See Morenicholsworth Z6 Indianapolis
