What sort of railing will be installed?

Why are you more comfortable with a 42" high railing? Won't that get in the way of the view of the lake?

The house is looking good by the way.

Virgil...deck will have Westbury Verticable in white. Comes in 36” or 42” height.

Screen porch is Westbury system in white so similar look to deck railing. Small square railings on all four sides of porch. Large Column on porch will be repeated under deck. So a little different look between deck and screen porch but I think it should be ok. The small square railings are repeated on both the deck and the porch. But height differences worry me.

Mark...we had to use the 36” railing on our upper boat dock (I really wanted 42”) because we would have violated the boat dock/boat house lake height restrictions if we had gone any higher. The lower height of the railing does worry me when kids are up there.

The 36” railing would definitely make for a better view from outside on the deck and from inside the house. But that small difference of 6” just niggles at me. it’s a long drop down to a concrete patio.

I rtend to be a worry wart about these things. DH wants the 36” height.

maybe I need to just get over it.

Unless the "kids" are overly tall, there is little danger in having a 36" high railing. I am 6'-4" and have not fallen over a 36" high railing yet. A 42" high railing may reduce a potential accident from happening, but then if an accident does happen they will be falling six more inches. I would stick with the 36" high railing.
