Tell me your experience with Red Masterpiece
Comments (13)Thanks for the input so far, guys! I neglected to mention that I already have Papa Meilland, Chrysler Imperial, and Deep Secret. All of them have their flaws. I'm eager for big, shapely blooms. Used to grow Veteran's Honor and Mr. Lincoln. Mr. Lincoln was my favorite in the Pacific Northwest, but down on the Gult Coast it grew 8 feet all for me--awkward--and blooms blue and blow too fast in our heat. Much like the others I mentioned in that regard. Veteran's Honor and Mr. Lincoln I left behind when I moved years ago. I've had a potted garden ever since (the past decade) as I rent and literally utilize concrete driveway space for my pot garden. I would like Vet's Honor again, but I'll need a biiiiigggg pot, it's so robust. Maybe on its own roots? I actually found VH reasonably fragrant--love that raspberry scent, kinda unusual in a rose. So what I'm hearing is that I have purchased an OK but probably forgettable rose. lol, oh well, I at least expect Tahitian Sunset to make up for it. : ) I may give up on the fragrance angle altogether, since I have Papa M and Chrysler, and try the scentless florist rose Vino Rossi. Any opinions? If not, maybe VH....See MoreLove and Peace? Please tell me your experiences with it.
Comments (9)I live on the West Coast of Florida and have had Love&Pease for a year. It's one of my favorites and I absolutely adore the mix and depth of colors. It resembles Double Delight just with yellow and vivid pink. I would say L&P is quite vigorous for me but mine is from Nelson nursery and grafted on fortuniana rootstock. Good news - the rose tolerates heat ( at least Florida heat in 10a) very well. Not so good news - it does blackspot but honestly I doubt there is a HT which would not do it in our humidity. It looked like L&P was trying to resist it and I didn't want to spray so I skipped spraying once then twice then again and again... untill it was too late and it blackspotted badly and defoliated. Then we had a chilli thrips attack and they damaged all new grows so I had to trim the rose hard. Now the humidity and heat are down and she is coming back - leafed out and has about two dozen buds and flowers. As a bonus mine has a pleasant sweet fragrance, not the strongest one but I would say 6 out of 10. Overall, if you don't mind spraying regularly you should definitely try growing L&P, it is a very beautiful rose....See MoreTell me about your experiences with Alfalfa Pellets Please
Comments (2)Kippy you've posted your question in the rose gallery rather than the regular section and I'm sure you'll receive more responses to your question there. I use the alfalfa meal since animals sometimes like to eat the pellets. You would use more for the larger plants and fewer for the smaller ones. You can use them at any time; if it's too cool they won't be activated until the weather is warmer but it won't harm the roses. Other plants will also benefit from the pellets so no worries there. Be sure to water them well so they swell up and begin to work. You can use them on new roses as long as they're actively growing and leafing out. Fish fertilizer I used mainly in the warmer months but I'm not an expert on that. Ingrid...See MoreTell me about your cataract surgery experience.
Comments (35)HU - I had my right eye done at the end of Jan 2018 (the left done last April). I still see some flares in the right from my outside flood light (that I turn on when I take the dog out). I go in next month for a 6 month check up and plan to ask the doctor about it. I quit most night driving numerous yrs back. I decided I didn't need to do that anymore and with the crazoid drivers here in AZ and I just plan around it. I do sometimes go to the W down the road in the evening and it's dark out when I come home - but I stay on my back roads and off of the HWY where the nuts are...I have no problems with that. I have no restrictions on driving tho - just my own preference not to get into the craziness at night. I did hear or read recently that there are glasses available now that do away with the flare / glare of lights from other cars, street lights etc. Don't know who makes them or how much they are tho. something to look into if the streams/flares continue. And be sure to let your doctor know about them. To others who might be interested, I found the pre-op preparation the worst. that was me knowing I wouldn't drive for a few days, shouldn't bend or lift either so I prepared things around the house so I wouldn't need to. Turned my gal water jugs into half gal and sat them up higher (for ease of filling my counter water filter). Same with dog food - put into a few smaller containers to use those few days and prepared some meals to have in the fridge / freezer so I wouldn't need to do that either. I normally slept on my left side, so that part worried me some, but I had no problem sleeping on the right side for a few nights. I find now that I more often sleep on the right side since that time. I'm now a bi-side sleeper! and I can even sleep on my back. I just took it easy for a few days after each surgery and all was fine. but I am so glad it is over! I do have glasses I wear while on the computer or reading, but don't need them for TV anymore and can read print on the screen (like news prog or shopping channels)....See Morerosiewells7b
