Exterior design dilemma! Need advice!
Comments (5)I would suggest you make the stucco the same color as the brick and add matching white siding on the gable above the stucco. I also would suggest relocating the small, cone-shaped shrubs and adding two or three shrubs with an arching shape to flank the large windows. i also would suggest having black shutters on all the windows, but I believe the shutters need to be wider than those on the front windows. I also would add white-painted flower boxes filled with red-blooming plants under the windows....See MoreDesign Dilemma- update exterior colour scheme for curb appeal
Comments (11)If the goal is to upgrade the curb appeal, I would look to landscaping because your house colours are mostly working as is. That said, you're showing the Gentek samples which I'm assuming are for the soffit. The soffit doesn't actually show so I'm not sure why you're starting there. They help bounce light into your windows, so going with the lightest colour that goes with your lightest bricks (NOT white) would be a direction for the soffits. The door and siding are an entirely different matter. The brown that you have now on the siding goes perfectly with the darkest brown bricks. Just refresh it. The thing that looks out of place is the overly white vinyl windows and door. I'm guessing the windows can not be painted so that leaves the door . (If the windows could be painted, a beige colour that tied back into the brick would be the idea. ) The front door could/should be a different colour than the siding. The natural wood tone suggested by Freedomplace1 would work with your brick if you changed the door, but probably not as a paint colour. What were you thinking for the door?...See MoreStair design dilemma - stringer attachment
Comments (2)We are remodeling our staircase and added a winder at bottom to increase our tread depth. We ended up having to add a 2x12 to the original header where the top of the stringers are attached. The piece of 2x12 hanging down is approximately where the stringer is resting. It is not being supported much, if at all, by the original header. We still need to add a third stringer and finish securing everything. The outer most stringers will also be secured into 2x4 framing for extra support. Do we need to "beef" this up in back for extra support for the stringers or is this sufficient? This was really our only option in order to increase our tread depth unless we added a third winder at the bottom. We really don't want to tear apart and add a third winder. Thanks in advance for advice....See MoreExterior design dilemma for beachfront home
Comments (14)@lisedv Would you be able to tell me how you created the rendering of my beach home? I love the idea of a white house with our light blue front door and would really like to see it with some natural/stained wood elements (California Coastal)…We’d like to replace the glass block window with a window of the same size with some type of privacy glass (perhaps framed with a light stained wood trim). And I like the idea of a wood planter box with beach grass or a similar low maintenance plant (probably 24” wide or so and fairly tall (32” or so) to the right of the front door. If we did something like this, would you also recommend trimming the front door in natural wood to match the window trim and planter box, or would you leave the trim white? And lastly, I love the idea of resurfacing the driveway, but I don’t think pavers would be approved by our HOA (no other units have them). Perhaps an epoxy or granite stone coating?...See MoreEmily Bridges
