Paint color different than sample
Comments (5)Sample eggshell, quart matte. Color difference is absolutely feasible due to sheen. Most people would say sheen makes color appear darker. Like if you spit on a blackboard. Matte and flat 'makes color appear richer' as light is more diffuse and scattered and there is less reflectivity - that equates to a higher-end look and is richer and more complex according to some tastes. Color change going eggshell to matte is barely detectable to many people - visual acuity just isn't there to pick it up or care. Other people see it instantly and not only see it, they feel it. Same with some Aura colors deepening over time -- I know that happens. I've seen it happen. It's a characteristic of Affinity colors that some people simply do not, can not see or sense. Same thing happens with (some) Kilz Casual Colors. All that's neither here nor there, really. Question becomes which color do you like the best and what's your plan to get that one on the walls....See MoreIs cherry furniture made differently than kitchen cabinets?
Comments (10)Cherry really does darken signifiacntly over time. Some of the newer finishes can slow the process by absorbing the UV that is required to create the reactions for the darkening. The deep wine red can occur relatively quickly in shellac (often franch polished) finishes, slightly longer under nitrocweullose lacquer, and who knows how long under polyurethane (solvent or water based). In any case, signifiacnt direct sun exposure is required. Most cherry darkens slightly after only a few weeks in the sun without a finish. I can easily get the color desired, but make no warranty that it is not fugitive under sunlight. It is possible to stain sapwood to match hardwood, and I do it occasionally when I need large section wood and my normal wide lumber sources cannot meet the need (24 to 30 inch planks). When carefully done you can only tell by stripping the finish....See MoreSubway tiles for backsplash...different patterns than the usual?
Comments (3)Actually, it's not that much more than normal. It looks complicated, but if you break the pattern into it's parts, it just a matter of stacking steps with the tiles laying down, and then stacking steps with them standing up. It only becomes a little complicated if you try and set it diagonally, like this:...See MoreSample tile color very different from delivered tile
Comments (1)That problem does occur, though it is rare. Sometimes the supplier changes their formula. Have you tried contacting AO to see if they have a different lot of the tile? The numbers on the box will identify the run. They may have a small amount of the old ones left in a warehouse. If you find the right person and appeal to them, they might be convinced to take a look. AO should be concerned if there is significant difference in the tile because they focus on the architect and design trade and this would not be acceptable in a client project....See MoreNajeebah
