We're in the process on purchasing this home. It was built in 1970. It obviously has a lot of brown on brown going on. We have decided to keep the mansard roof, but it has water damage and has to be replaced. I'm in desperate need on roof colors/ type, paint the brick or keep the brick as is, trim colors, shutters(thinking cypress/ cedar) ????I've researched many options but can't seem to pull anything together. The home is most BEAUTIFUL and I feel it just needs some updating to restore it to its new glory! I would love a covered front porch, but really uncertain how to accomplish such a task with this type of roof design.

We're ready to start planning our project in earnest and aren't sure the order in which we should do the work or how many different types of contractors we need. I'd appreciate any insights you can give. We hope to use the mockup @ourfarmhouse made for us as our goal (see below). Our exterior projects include: New roof in grey, which will require changing the color of the gutters, etc. Architectural elements, such as the columns at the front entry and on the upper dormer windows, and new shutters Painted front door and garage doors (instead of replacing them, for now) Repaired/repaved asphalt drive way 27'x14' concrete patio has a large crack down the entire length that will need repaired, and we're thinking about a decorative finish like acid-staining This same 27'x14' covered patio will be screened-in, and the existing posts might need replaced or refinished; will be changing from brown posts and ceiling to a color that coordinates with the new grey roof. What types of professionals do we need and/or which types of professionals can be used for multiple projects? For example, can we get by with a roofer (roof/gutters), asphalt/concrete company (driveway/patio), and carpenter (architectural elements, screened porch, painting door/garage door, and hanging shutters)? Is there an advantage to using a general contractor?What order should we follow? Thank you!

What roof did you decide on? Our house is brick but we are also trying to decide between mission brown and weathered wood. I don’t want to regret choosing a roof that’s too light in color. I agree that the charcoal is too dark, but the slate is too light and has a green tinge to it. It’s a very hard choice!

No brown roof on that house. It wont look good with the brick. The charcoal color it is now, is perfect, and I would redo it with the same color it is. No, dont paint the brick. Why take something maintenance free and turn it into maintenance. The shutters could be a bit darker than wht they are. I agree with above, your house right now is perfect for the style of the house. Do not muddle up, what already works very well. Put your money on something else, or just bank it and enjoy what you already have, which is a very well done exterior.
