how do u prep and sow your containers?
Comments (55)I, like everyone else, am gearing up for the wintersowing season and was just wondering if anyone has had success with the opaque white gallon milk jugs that you buy in Costco? I am hesitant to use them because i'm not sure what the light penetration would be like, but at the same time i bet it lets more light in than i think. on a related note, i have heard differing opinions on this site as well as others about sowing containers and putting them in a cold frame. i have three cold frames ready to go and it just seems easier than wrangling a ton of milk jugs. any thoughts on this use of a cold frame? -nate...See MoreHow to prep kitchen walls before painting them?
Comments (2)sonal, I don't know the condition of your kitchen. Only you would know that, so here are a few things you might examine as far as prep. Are your walls subject to moisture, where does the moisture when cooking something on the stove go to? Do you have good ventilation? Are your walls subject to grease splatters or food splatters? Most of the time kitchens as we all know them can be a little more messy than our other rooms. Yes, I like chloe's suggestions for cleaning your walls if they consist of any of the above. Make any necessary repairs if needed, sand, make sure all dust is removed, prime with a medium gray primer(battleship gray); let dry and then paint with one of your chosen colors. 2 coats . Question: Have you painted with the Aura paint before? It starts to set up a little quicker than the typical vinyl acrylics do, so just know when you roll on the Aura, just roll and keep moving. Don't keep rolling back and forth or do not go back into the paint once you have brushed or rolled. Pick up any holidays, etc on the second coat. Watch the temperature in the room also. good luck. :) finished color should look great....See MoreHow do I prep a bowling ball before mosaicing (and other bowling ball
Comments (0)peso Thu, Oct 7, 04 at 18:42 Hey all you veteran bowling ball people! I have done a search on all the info, but I have a question. Do I have to paint the balls? One thread said I did, but I hadn't read about anyone else painting first. I have 2 balls one a flat red and one is a shiny blue. Could you let me know what you did and how you feel about this painting thing... Thanx in advance Penny littlechloe Thu, Oct 7, 04 at 19:45 I can't think why you'd paint it unless you are using glass or light colored marbles that would show the color underneath. It's a good idea to wipe it down really well with a cleaner that cuts grease as bowling balls have oil on them from the lanes. I covered one in half-marbles using clear silicone, didn't do anything other than clean it. techsupport8 Mon, Oct 11, 04 at 8:29 If you don't like the color, then paint it. If not, leave it be - it's less work. barbara52 Mon, Sep 20, 04 at 14:15 If you plan to have yours outside, you should use a waterproof adhesive (I use GE Silicone II) and a waterproof sealer (I use Tile Lab grout sealer) over the grout. Keli Tue, Sep 21, 04 at 6:06 more tips.. When you glue the plastic frogs on use superglue, or they'll pop back off. When you mosaic the BB use small tesserae, it's easier to deal with the curve of the ball...See MoreHow important to sand cabinets before painting?
Comments (8)Step #1 Clean them well. Vinegar and dishwashing soap work a treat Step #2 FORGET having to sand because Step #3 You prime them with Zinnser 123 - a primer that sticks to anything including vinyl and polyurethane, Step #3 Paint On paints, I think the chalk paints are the latest frou-frou fade. Had an Annie Sloan dealer tell me they DO NOT hold up in kitchens and baths. IF you want the buttermilk finish, use Old Village Buttermilk paint -- stuff is so tough you can use it outdoors. It is the oldest paint company in the US - been around 198++ years and is still owned by the same family. In the kitchen give what ever paint you use a nice couple coats of gel varnish -- either Old Village Clear or Bartley Clear. (Bartley is the crème de le crème of find furniture making stains and varnish.) You put gel varnish on with a cloth....See MoreRelated Professionals
