I'm sorry, Kaye - I forgot to thank you for your photo of Charles Austin! I don't know if that's the same rose though. The Pilgrim looks too yellow, at least from photos, rather than "Crepuscule Apricot" like my rose. It really is just about the exact same color as my Crepuscule (at least at this moment, in my garden, subject to change without notice, lol!) I assume you're kidding about the DNA testing, cupshaped_roses. I wish it were feasible to have roses DNA cataloged though. As for Jayne Austin... the thorns look different in shape and color, and the rose looks too yellow. Actually, the best match so far appears to be Crown Princess Margareta. This wasn't supposed to be so difficult - this isn't a pink hybrid tea, after all! David Austin has too many darn similar-looking roses, lol! I wound up with quite a few mislabeled roses from the days when I did a lot of trading here at GW. :-(

That something was going on with the mosquitoes. I looked out the window and there I saw it on the tree (bark, bark) it looked rough (ruff, ruff) then I could make out that it was a mass of female mosquitoes amassed on the bark of the Beech tree. My dog was in the hollow at the bottom of the tree afraid to come out. The mosquitoes were humming in F but some were in F sharp, some in F flat, f minor, F augmented with a flatted fifth - It was the kind of sound one migh expect to hear if they were in a room with pink walls - padded walls at that. A pleasant sound really and relaxing if you didn't mind being strapped down. I thought about the tiny sapling at the foot of the majestic beech - could it be a son of a beech?

Thank you! I suppose one is a photographer if one takes photos, but I've not bought any professional cameras or sold anything. Since DuBois bought me Canon Powershot S2 IS 12 X zoom and Olympus SP-550 18 X zoom point-and-shoot cameras I've taken photos but was disappointed in the picture quality, so Gail suggested I buy a DSLR. DuBois' mom sent Christmas money in 2007, so I did research and bought a Canon EOS 40-D camera and Canon EF 400mm f/5.6 L lens in Jan. 2008. It's taken a long time to get the hang of it, and even now, most of the photos have to be deleted-I'll typically take 300 photos and keep 13. At first I used tripods, but now just handhold or brace my arm against my knee. I still have to get VERY close for the photos to look like anything, so it's mostly about knowing the bird calls, habitat, habits, and trying to gain an advantage with height, lighting, etc I try to get close enough to use the auto-focus, but it only works well in strong light, with no surrounding branches. To compensate for my eyesight, I usually twist the manual focus back and forth as I shoot rapidly, in hopes that something will be in focus

It has been really fun to see what each person added and what each quilt must have looked like when they were half done. The one quilt that I can't figure out is Michelle's. It looks to me like there are 5 borders (and I know there are only 4!): the one that set the center on point, a narrow red/white border, the red/white/blue zigzags, the big snowflakes, and then the final blue/red/blue. What am I not seeing?
