Do you have a favorite Junk Do-Dad ?
Comments (6)Ya mean my fav Junk Do-Dads besides glass for totems and flowers? LOL I especially like funky style things that are handmade. Must take a pic of one of my latest treasures to show. The day I found a large coffee can full of chandy crystals for only $2. was a memorable day! No one but a dedicated YS/crafter/junker could understand that thrill. Other than that my list IS a mile long. I like anything that could be described as architectural, bling, antique, vintage, concrete, rock, or repurposed. Does that cover pretty much any ol' thing I might find cheap at a yard sale? Or sometimes not so cheap at a thrift or antique shop? I've also recently found a little old table for $2 and a very junky bench for $1.50 for my garden or garden house. They need help and I probably overpaid even at those low prices. My DH just shakes his head when I buy things like this. He thinks they're trash and he may be right. But I like them and know they can be reno'd....See MoreDo you have any favorite hellebores?
Comments (2)I only have various seedlings which I have collected from other people's gardens although Mr.Campanula drove 70 miles (laughable distance to Americans but we practically pack a suitcase here) to buy me a pure, clear yellow single (should get some interesting seedlings now). I have never heard of plants such as Crimson Ruffles - we rarely get named plants over here apart from the 'Lady' series - although we can buy various breeder selections such as 'Ashwood' or Harvington Hybrids or Bradfield Stars - from the particular nursery which grows each strain. They tend to be Oriental hellebores, Hellebore X Hybridus. Many nurseries and seed catalogues will sell seed selections too, including Mrs Betty Ranicar....but seed is always a bit of a gamble. I am personally loving the delicately nodding H.thibetanus and the smaller deep red flowers of H.atrorubens but have failed to hang on to H.lividus. The Christmas rose, H.niger is a bit dodgy too, although I do mean to try H.nigercors - it has taken me a while to come round to green flowers but having finally achieved a smidgeon of taste and sophistication (ahem)...........See MoreDo you have any favorite single bloom roses?
Comments (32)If you have a lot of room, you could track down a plant of the 'Trier' x 'Mutabilis' seedling 'Plaisanterie' - it's one rose that totally shows it's heritage of both parents. It's gorgeous, hardier than 'Mutabilis' and also cleaner here in Maryland in terms of disease resistance so far. Definitely more of a climber, but the flowers are exactly the coloring of 'Mutabilis', perhaps even pink/peachier and contained in the petal form of 'Trier' in that charming multiflora manner. I love it. Here is a link that might be useful: Plaisanterie on HMF...See MoreDo you have any favorite decorating blogs?
Comments (3)Nope. This is my fav decorating site. I also post at one that's a members only thing--I've been on that one since 2001. Blogs? Only occasionally and accidently do I hit a blog. But here's one I love. I got to it accidently, following a trail to Reheatable Mashed Potatoes. (Thepioneerwomancooks.com) I make great potatoes and didn't feel like I needed a blow-by-blow, but the how-to-reheat thing reeled me in. I also don't look at pictures, but I have looked through most of her photos. Anyway......... Red Here is a link that might be useful: The Pioneer Woman...See MoreNHBabs z4b-5a NH
