Comments (5)Lux, I also have Mlle. Jeanne Philippe, my only apricot, but it's still too early for me to really comment on it, as it is only about a year and a half old. So far, I like it very much. It's really graceful and pretty to look at even when it's not blooming, and last spring/summer/fall it really didn't bloom much. This year, however, it is starting out with enthusiasm - it's right outside my window as I sit at the computer, and I can count seven buds, one of which is starting to open. I'm glad to read in your post that it's a very floriferous rose (though I would keep it even if it were not). Can you tell me anything about how big it will get? Vintage described it as being small, which is what I need (all of my few roses are in pots and must remain so), but Vintage didn't sound entirely sure about ultimate size. Thanks for any info you can give me. Laura...See Moreyour favorite BS resistant yellow or apricot rose for cutting
Comments (19)Apricot is my favorite color of rose so I do grow quite a few and have found most to be healthy and hardy. I do spray, however, but most of these I think would be okay without it. Nancy Reagan--took 2 yrs to mature, but now--WATCH OUT! Mother of Pearl--Marvelous health, vigor, quantity of bloom Marilyn Monroe--All the goodness of her daddy St. Patrick in an apricot flower. European Touch-Monster bush with tons of flowers and no disease. Tahitian Sunset--Multi-color and fragrant--delicious. Welcome Home--Yellow HT-monster bush and tons of flowers. Southern Belle--Little known J&P yellow with old-fashioned blooms and wonderful fragrance. Gold Medal--The absolute grandiflora standard of perfection About Face--took 2 years to establish, now it is huge and throws scads of beautiful blooms. Hollywood Star--Probably the oveall best John Sheldon hybridyzed rose. Beautiful apricot blooms healthy/hardy Day Breaker--My favorite of ALL roses. Great bush without flowers, breathtaking when loaded with dozens of multi-colored apricot/pink/yellow/cream blooms. John...See MorePeach! Orange! and Yellow Blend! Mmm I Can Taste It (Long)
Comments (22)Thanks to everyone for your lovely comments I'm glad you all enjoyed viewing them. Atoll, I bought so long ago, it was one of my very first set of roses that I purchased at a local nursery called White Rose which is no longer running. It is very winter hardy and don't pay much attention to it. I chopped it down to the bud union and it is racing for the sky. It suffers from a mild case of powdery mildew and bs, but other than that its a bloom machine and I must say that the color is truly that bold and bright. Comments (21)For the people who understand hue, color, value, etc. What is in the green or blue that doesn't change colors? Do they have more cooler colors? There's nothing *in* the green and blue. Rather it's a matter of their being less toned. They likely have a very simple mix of colorants - just one or two - in the can. Which is why they look pastel. Which is also why they seem to not change much from the chip -- they are simple colors and it is easy to see what hue family they belong to, blue and green. Near neutral paint colors are colors that have been toned down so far they look "gray". These colors are not so simple. They are complex and it is not easy to see what hue family they come from. Every color comes from a hue family. And that is where the hue bias, like green, purple, and blue comes from. For example, the gray you think *turned purple* has always been purple you just didn't see it. Probably because you didn't know to look for the hue bias. It is also the hue family that gives direction as far as color temperature. Near neutral paint colors from the yellow-red hue family will be warmer than the paint colors from the blue hue family. Paint chips are arranged by hue family at every paint store. Paying attention to what hue family section of the display you are pulling chips can help; even with those super toned down colors that look gray. Sometimes the store will pull the near neutral colors out into a separate side display. Which makes it harder for people to identify hue bias and temperature in paint chips.
