Help my cream paint is too yellow!
Comments (8)That reminds me of my old dining room, which I painted a very pale creamy near-yellow and absolutely loved, it looked like a cheerful sunny day all the time! When I helped my MIL paint her study in her new house, I chose the same color. She was very disappointed. I didn't take into account that my dining room faced east and had 4 windows, and MILs room faced north and had one window. It looked depressing. That was my first major color lesson, to consider the light. (She later craved color so much that she repainted it a hideous peach. We won't go there ;)...See MoreYellow dining room. too yellow?
Comments (35)This shade of yellow is too harsh. I've seen some yellow rooms I loved, & yellow & gold walls are so very popular. Yellow is hard to get right, IMO. When you really examine yellow paint swatches, you see some have peach undertones, others have green, or gray. So some are quite warm & friendly, while others feel cold & harsh. The first thing I thought of when I saw the photo, was "taxi cab yellow!" Your room is fabulous. You are so fortunate to have the wood architectural detail & beautiful floors. I don't think this color does justice to the quality of your interior. I see where you were going wanting yellow, just think you could do better & before you put the stuff in your room, why not seize the moment & soften it up? You have a simply elegant space w/which to work. Whether you change it or not, show us a picture once you finish the room! Best wishes! Comments (1)http://www.mariakillam.com/category/how-to-choose-white/ Choosing the right white can be harder than choosing a color. Depends on the light in your room, other surfaces in the room like flooring and furniture. You can buy samples and paint them on poster board to see how they look in your room. Try Benjamin Moore Cloud White, Simply White, White Dove. Can you post photos of your room, in natural light during the day if possible....See MoreWalls too blue; counter too yellow
Comments (2)It can't hurt to try the new bulbs and see if you like their effect. I'm guessing daylight bulbs will make your gray walls look blue if you chose a blue-gray to begin with. If you have a green-gray paint (something like BM Gray Owl), then I don't think daylight bulbs will make the walls appear blue, but you won't know till you try. And it's only a problem if you don't like blue. I personally don't like daylight bulbs in our house because their light makes me feel like I'm in a hospital or other institution. We recently tested them in our basement (which is in the process of being finished) because I thought they would make the artificially-lit space look brighter, but we decided they just aren't for us. I think if you have a modern aesthetic you can pull off the daylight bulbs. I'd rather a creamy/yellow look for my whites than an overall clinical feel, but I think it really depends on your personal taste....See Moregraywings123
