Anyone use dishwasher detergent as a laundry booster?
Comments (24)I agree that the dishwasher detergent is probably too harsh for clothes. I also want to point out that dishwashing liquid like Dawn causes too much sudsing, and can cavitate the pump on a regular washer, and should never ever be used in a HE washer. I use the soak cycle and either Clorox 2 or Oxiclean. For the worst I have a small stash of STPP, the phosphate compound removed from detergents to prevent algae overgrowth in waterways. I use it extremely sparingly, a teaspoon at a time as a laundry booster, just a couple times a year, if that often. I am still using the rinse only cycle with no spin before I wash my clothes. It seems to make a bigger difference than anything else. The clothes are submerged in water, not half-submerged. No way to alter the water level setting, as it does it by weight....See MoreShare Your Favorite Free & Clear Detergents

Load was done on cool which was 74F. I'm looking forward to continuing to use these on colors. When I had them last time I only used them on whites....See MoreI need a new dishwasher detergent!
Comments (21)Well, I ventured into Costco today, and it was amazingly half empty - I expected chaos on Christmas Eve day, but it seems I found a magic Costco.. I got some Kirkland pods, and my first experience was good: all clean, no smell afterwards. Of the 13 loads I'd done with the Finish Quantum pods, I can think of 3 that left dirty dishes in the load, which is just a horrible average. The rest of those went in the trash, and I'll see how the Kirkland pods do. I'll keep all your ideas in mind if I need to change again....See MoreDiswasher Detergent
Comments (54)For everyone replying to this who has not mentioned Lemishine, they need to try that. Lemishine can be used to wash the dishes, but it works best to wash the dishwasher. Hard water is insidious. Eventually it coats everything. I could see the calcium clogging the sprayer jets inside my dishwasher before I used Lemishine. After running the dw empty with Lemishine, it was so miraculous I had to do it again. After the second wash, the inside of the dishwasher looked brand new. It restored the shine to all the plastic bins and pieces inside. The screen at the bottom suddenly was clean. Everything was clean. Now I run an empty load once a month with Lemishine to keep the calcium from building up. Love that stuff...could you tell? Once you realize how well it works, you can go to straight citric acid if you can find that for less. I also use Lemishine to clean the calcium buildup in my toilets. One tablespoon and let it sit for 15 minutes. If you see small bubbles, it's working. I follow up after 15 minutes with 1 tablespoon of baking soda. That will foam right away. When the foaming stops, I flush....See MoreCompumom
