Need Advice About Two Houseplants
Comments (6)Rhizo.....I did cut some holes in the foil hat but will remove it as I am sure it will be better for the plant in the long run. Purpleinopp....Thanks for the welcome! I just set the plant on the heater only for taking the pic. :-) I am planning on repotting the palm to give it more room to grow--if it survives. I usually let the plants get almost dry before watering again. Which is hard for me because I am a confessed 'overwaterer'. I did find spider mites on the undersides of both plants using a magnifying glass so Toni was right on the money! Not to say that there are not other issues as well...LOL Thanks again for the great help....you guys are good...and quick too!...See MoreHouseplant ID Needed
Comments (4)Impatiens. If it looks that good as an indoor plant, then she is far better off keeping it inside! There is a disease that has been sweeping the country (and world) affecting impatiens. It's one of the Downy Mildew pathogens....See MoreHouseplant ID & Questions
Comments (4)Yes, the Kalanchoe looks like blossfeldiana. More often called flaming Katy or florist Kal. A stalwart entity if given enough direct light & protected from freezing. All of my plants are in the same "stuff," which is chunky/porous/airy, so I don't have to worry about the roots rotting. The info here http://forums2.gardenweb.com/discussions/1490818/good-growing-practices-an-overview-for-beginners?n=175 is a good place to start reading more about these things. There's nothing at all wrong with buying a plant that's mysterious to you. You can learn about it much more quickly than it can die, in almost every circumstance. Some humidity divas might need a terrarium in a dry house but where there's a will, and the means, there's a way to keep any plant alive in the captivity of a pot. Sometimes one has to decide it's unreasonable to care for a particular plant, but that's the exception, not the norm, regarding the conditions available in the average house combined with the plants commonly sold as house plants, and not something one could always gauge from previous reading. Best luck!...See MoreHouseplant / Succulent ID
Comments (3)etiolated In other words - as is very often the case with desert succulent house plants asked about on this site - it needs a spot with a lot more light than it has been getting. Also if that planter does not drain out the bottom it would be preferable to replant in one that does. If you don't have an unscreened sunny window for it set it up with bright artificial light. Light that is turned on for a long time each day....See Moreprairiemoon2 z6b MA
