Need ideas for spillway between ponds
Comments (3)Almost everyone uses the expanding foam in aerosol cans to fill the gaps under and between rocks so that water will flow over instead of between and under them. Pond stores carry it in black. However, it is the same thing that you can find in hardware stores called 'Great stuff'. GS is beige, but it soon gets covered with crud and algae and will look natural. The stuff is horribly sticky and you will almost certainly get it on you AND your clothes. Wear your painting duds and disposable gloves (double or tripple them). The stuff Cannot be removed from clothing and will not come off later!!! The only way to get it off your skin is to wait for the skin to wear off!!...See Morenarrow space, need ideas
Comments (13)I, too, am looking for a tall, narrow shrub to plant as a privacy hedge between my patio and neighbors yard. I don't want something that's going to be too dense and would even prefer not to have a straight line of one plant but I don't know a thing about gardening and have no idea what to use. I thought I could do a row of crape myrtle, which thrives at the Jersey shore but am worried it will grow too wide...I really can't go wider than 4'. Any help or ideas would be very much appreciated!...See MoreHelp! Space between upper and lower cabinets too small!
Comments (18)It depends a lot on how you use the kitchen. DW is 5'4" and I am 5'8" so we're very similar in size. I went with 19" because I use a tilt up mixer a lot and when I've had a lower clearance I've felt it really affected my sight lines/made it harder to see what I was doing. On the positive side - It does make the higher shelves on your uppers easier to reach. Are you planning on any undercab lighting? If so what kind and how will that affect your clearance? I know a lot of people are opposed to this, but I actually like a slightly shorter counter height so I had 3/4" shaved off of my base cabs (but not the island where the range is) . I asked my GC who was extremely knowledgeable if I could shave off an inch and the max he advised was 3/4". He was right - more would have been trouble. I'm happy with it so far and don't think it's that noticeable. It could bother someone at resale time, but I'm willing to live with that trade off for a counter height that's more comfortable for DW and myself. If you do shorten, you want to be very, very careful about measuring your DW and range. My brand new Bosch DW had problems and had to be swapped out with a new one. The repair person who swapped them out (not the original installer) was not pleased about the clearance but did manage to get the new one in. Also, IMO, This is the kind of thing a KD should help make the right decision on, not make a bad decision for you without consulting you. They absolutely should have checked with you about this. If this can't be fixed easily, I would ask them to make it up to you in some other way....See MoreA small space kitchen is so small that it needs ...
Comments (31)O.T. Do not disrespect or underestimate small kitchens. The original kitchens on my tract house street were horrible by current standards, but these twinsie little pullman kitchens with doors on both ends nevertheless allowed post-WWII moms to make family meals from scratch, can and freeze garden produce, and host card parties, garden club meetings, and extended families at holidays. I've been told as much by the older residents. DH and I remodeled the original so nicely without adding an inch of actual space that it served me from 1976 to last year when we finally took a sledgehammer to it. Guests at my dinner parties joked that it was like the clown car from which so much entertainment emerged even if it appeared to hold so very very little. But I had to have rules and one was that no one could be in the space with me when I said I needed to be alone. We installed a long countertop which allowed me to plate things before serving and which accepted mounds of dirty dishes afterwards. Cleanup was also a one-person activity. No one was allowed to stand around to talk; guests could stand at either door if they really wanted to, but no, no, no, do not come in. The work triangle was a long obtuse triangle that covered the entire room. But the zones were there, crisp and sharp and functional....See Morelittlebug zone 5 Missouri
