Chosing a backsplash with black granite counters
Comments (23)All great suggestions! Boxerpups - Your images are very helpful, thank you. Do you mind my asking where you got the photo you posted at the link below? (I'd like to know what countertop material that is, and where I can get that same backsplash. This is exactly what I want to do with my kitchen. Thanks again!) http://s620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/boxerpups22/Kitchens%20three/?action=viewät=e51b22e4.jpg...See MoreNeed advice on granite I chose
Comments (5)Thanks so much for your assurance it will look good. I had been to the blog last night and was looking at kitchens until I was bleary eyed!! Lord, how we obsess over stuff!!! This is my first big money decision I have to make and I am so glad. Hallaluah!!! This is kind of off topic, but not. I was watching DIY's show of tips and they were talking about how to get a grease stain out of granite. They left a bottle of cooking oil on the counter that had oil on the bottom and it penetrated the granite. I didn't get the exact name of the product they used, (DH was talking to me about something at the time) but is was a lime based product that they applied to the stain that had the consistency of spackling, let it sit 72 hours and then came back and wiped it up. They said the lime actually pulled the oil out of the granite. Just wanted to mention this for anyone who needed to know....See MoreGranite BS Alert: One-Piece (no seam) Granite for L-Shape??
Comments (21)Thanks all, very very helpful info. Boxerpups, special thanks for these great photos, would never guess where the seams are in your counters. If things would work out so well for us, I would prefer they use caution with my handpicked slab and add a seam. You make a very good point about my confidence in the fabricator also. I think that must be the true source of my uneasiness. I do feel they are competent because they give all the right answers to questions (that I learned to ask from this forum), and they are well established in this area, but I just didn't click with the salesman and I only overlooked that because our contractor, who is wonderful, overall likes them. The owner also is great. So every time the salesman tells me something, I don't trust him. So I think what I will do is ask about their ability to hide seams and show them your photos if you don't mind--to give them an idea what our expectations are. Then I can put this to rest and move on. Thanks so much again everyone! And please stay tuned for backsplash questions, that is the next step!!...See MoreBedside table or chest -- which would you chose?
Comments (22)Very nice - not too chunky at all. I'm also usually quite "anti-matchy-matchy," but in this case, I don't think it's bad to have two of the same nightstands. My bedroom is the only place we have a "set" of furniture. I did not buy it... my husband did. It's not exactly my style, but it does provide a nice "basic" backdrop to other things which can remove the "matchy matchy" feel. The other issue I have is that sometimes it can be difficult to pull off the intentionally eclectic non-matching look. I think that in a situation like this, there is a fairly high chance of making it look like you just threw in whatever non-matched furniture you had. It's a fine line....See Moreoldbat2be
