Maybe add one long rolled cushion or pillow on the bed?

Try placing a thin book under the lamp on the bedside chest so that the top of the shade is level with the other one.

On the bedside chest -- try a dark-framed photo to "move" the color of the table over to the other side. Add a small trio of similar photos in dark frames on the left-hand side of the table.

To connect the two sides -- try hanging two matching artworks (one over each one). The set of artworks (or try small photos in larger frames for a fresh look) should be in a rectanglar frame -- and the artworks hung vertically. Maybe with white frames and mats?

I can't see all of the table on the left side of your bed. What I can see, is yes, it looks a little long. But if you were to paint it white like the chest, maybe it would work. Also long narrow artwork on the wall behind the lamps would look nice, Or a large piece of art over the bed but not both. Your room looks clean and simple.

I like that you don't have matching pieces flanking your bed. The table may not be the right piece (not sure since I can't see all of it) but having something less blocky than the chest is nice and 2 chests, whether matching or not, would be heavy.

Not too chunky, but too matchy-matchy. I'd go for a different table rather than another chest.

What about a smaller piece with drawers so you can have the chest you want? Or maybe a table with a drawer or two?

Chests flanking the bed would look fine.

I don't like that you have three wood tones going one, I would pick two bedside tables that were different shapes ( and same heights) but the same color and different than the bed.

The only room in the house that I like to be matchy-matchy is the bedroom. I have no idea why!

I love the chest though. I think having two of them would be nice, especially because the bed isn't white. White bed with white chests, no.

I just went through the same dilemma with choosing nightstands. I recently bought a white distressed iron sleigh bed and I felt the need to have matching nightstands. Before, I had used a blanket chest on one side and a 3 drawer nightstand on the other. Once I bought the bed, I ordered two black country style nightstands. They have not come in yet but I sure hope they work. I have quite an eclectic mix of furnishings. I believe either way will work, but it does appear that the table is a little long. I think that two chests would look nice or the idea that Bumblebeez had.

I am usually not a matching-type person, and I went through the same problem when choosing night tables for our bedroom. But in the case of your bed furniture, it seems to me they need to be more closely coordinated if you want them to be different. Personally, I like the balance of like pieces on either side of the bed. It makes it more "settling" to my eye. And, if you don't mind my opinion, I would definitely get larger/taller lamps, or mount lamps on the wall above the tables or bed.

I think two (white) chests would look fabulous. I would make sure they are the same height and not too different in width.

Love your ideas and suggestions!!! Really gives me something to think about. The chest I have picked out is at a local resale shop, so for not very much money I could pick it up and I'd definitely repaint it. It's almost exactly the same size as the other chest. Think I'll go back and look at it again.

I've got my eye on some sconces that I'd love to have in there. What do you think of these?

Very nice - not too chunky at all. I'm also usually quite "anti-matchy-matchy," but in this case, I don't think it's bad to have two of the same nightstands. My bedroom is the only place we have a "set" of furniture. I did not buy it... my husband did. It's not exactly my style, but it does provide a nice "basic" backdrop to other things which can remove the "matchy matchy" feel.

The other issue I have is that sometimes it can be difficult to pull off the intentionally eclectic non-matching look. I think that in a situation like this, there is a fairly high chance of making it look like you just threw in whatever non-matched furniture you had. It's a fine line.

Just wanted to chime in about the sconces. If those are the ones from PB, I wanted to tell you that I have them, and love them! We read in bed and these have worked out great. I like how they can be swiveled side to side to light on different areas, and adjusted in height easily.

I also have those sconces... and we also love them! IMO, they are a good price for the function/look. :)

RE: your original post, I don't think the table on the left works at all. It doesn't feel balanced to me in that space. I would do two trunks, or two end tables that were like the Valencia rectangular end tables from PB. (They have one drawer on top, but bottom is open.)

Thanks to you all! Wow! Some great suggestions and input! I'm glad to hear that those of you who have the PB sconces really like them. I wondered if they would put off enough light for reading and it sounds like they would be great for that! DH went and picked up the second-hand chest for me today. I think I know how I will paint it, but then my mind starts swirling with different options, and I know I can get carried away with a paint brush in my hand. I will try to post a pic tomorrow. Tonight -- I'm just too tired -- been out house hunting with my daughter. The things we saw!!! :-)
