Comments (18)What a wonderful project. And how nice that the house is set back so that different areas of transition can be created. Will you be growing tall trees so the home is eventually sheltered in dappled shade? Lower landscaping so the house rises above washed with sunshine? Do you want a rather mysterious look with a narrow area of accented house intriguing and drawing the eye in , making people going by try to see more? Do you want an open look with the property lushly foliaged but the house very much on display, serenely or exuberantly? If you have a image in mind of what you want, style, mood and light included, you could then drive around both creative older and expensively landscaped neighborhoods looking for ideas to realize it. Color choices made then? These mostly lack the rich color you want, but I was mostly thinking first of how it might be dressed with garden. :) Lush elsewhere, perhaps, but close in as open and airy as the interior? I'm really not crazy about brown in general, but even I think a brown reminiscent of wet tree trunks works wonderfully to accent and tie inside, transition areas, garden together. The previous property uses it also....See MoreExterior House color scheme

Comments (7)I addition to painting there are other things you can do to bring back some of the historic character of the buildings. Doors of an appropriate style will add more historic character. The commercial entrance on the blue building needs to be more of a feature. One way to do that is to paint the red door to the right of the entrance the same color as the siding so the eye is not drawn to that area. Kickplates could be added under the windows on building with the purple(ish) door. Since picture windows were on most commercial buildings adding them to these windows would return some of the character of a commercial space. Awnings could be added over some of the windows. See if you can find some historic photos of the buildings to see what was there previously. There might have been dentil molding or corbels on the cornice along the top of the blue building that could be recreated. Signage is another area that can aide in bringing more historic character to a building. Using overhanging signs is appropriate, and also, since the buildings are so close to the street allow people to know who and where a business is. You need to put together a list of things you want to do and then rank them in order of what has to be done, what you really want to do and finally what would be nice to do but is not a priority. If there is a local Historic Preservation/Planning Department they can be an valuable resource for you. Good luck....See Morehelp! what exterior color scheme to do on my mediterranean style house
Comments (16)@Beverly i will post more pictures later that are close up and a little clearer. the bones of the house have a french-mediterranean vibe more than any other style i have seen. there are several arches and french-style accents that i will try to capture for you. the house (before the garage addition) looked very similar to your second pic, it had a flat roof/patio like that, but i had to take it down and rebuild that part, unfortunately. thank you for posting pics, i like the look of the last one....See Morecpartist
