We are considering all the same issues as this poster. Our fridge will be on the far left of the row of cabinets in a galley kitchen, so it seems that opening a single door left-hinge fridge will be more convenient than an FD. I also am very concerned about energy efficiency and durability, so I have some questions about how well the FD models will seal long term. I have no interest in throwing my $2000 fridge out in 5 years! We did find a GE model that seems to fit the bill: PDCS1NBWLSS GE Profile Energy Star 21.1 Cu. Ft. Stainless Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator - Left Hinged. We have not bought this yet but are still shopping around. We want a modest sized one like this (again to avoid wasting energy for space we rarely need), but there may be something similar in a larger size. Good hunting! Good luck!

What is your budget? You can spend $1000 or a stainless refrigerator, or $8,000. If anyone has the IW-30CI, what is the storable height in the fridge / freezer drawers (in inches)? I know they aren't tall enough for an upright bottle of Grey Goose but, I think they are tall enough for soda cans to be stored upright. Does anyone have the measurements? The Subzero site has the entire drawer heights listed, not the interior. 13 5/16 for the upper drawer, 10 9/16 for the lower. I can't figure out how much of that is drawer vs space from the diagram. Thanks everyone. I decided to move the sink to a different location which frees up the fridge to move over so there's 10-12" of space between the wall. I think we could have gotten away with just 4-5" with a handle-less single door bottom freezer fridge. But none of the showrooms or stores had in stock the models we were interested in, so we couldn't test the spacing on the exact one we would buy. In my research, I found that very few non-luxury brands have zero clearance hinges (Apparantly Whirpool is the only brand that does it on non-built in fridges, but they haven't been manufacturing due to parts shortages). All built-in fridges have them, but those start at $7k and also have limited interior capacity due to their shallowness. So that means the doors swing open by their own width at the hinge, leaving even less space. The manufacturers don't actually specificy these details in the specifications, which is a pain. I also don't know why the built-in doors are so difficult (and expensive) for manufacturers to add to all fridge types. It seems like a $20 hinge and shortening the door height by an inch is all that's needed - but what do I know.
