Photos Please - Hood Different Color than Adjoining Cabinets?
Comments (7)If you like it, it will be beautiful. I have seen the combination before and it does look lovely. I wish I had exactly what you are looking for. I have combinations that you can look over. Maybe this can help you finalize your plans. You are looking for a hood/cabinets below are a different color paint or stain than the adjoining cabinets. A linen color (with distressed glaze) on the main cabinets and the island will be a rubbed black. Hope these images help. ~boxer Not linen but a dark hood Kitchen and Bath Studio My Home Ideas Blog American Port Okay these last two are the light hood combo but I think you can see how great the combination works. Comments (16)I guess I just have to start looking at countertops to find two that work together. I need to order the cabinets, but don't want to do it till I know what I'll be using on top of them. rmkitchen, I love your kitchen. It looks absolutely beautiful.I know you used an outerbead and inner cove for your doors, how are they to clean? Does anything get stuck in the bead? mmme- Great point about all the other elements blending together, I will be painting the trim and windows the same colors as the cabs. My floor may not be as dark as rmkitchen though. margieb2- your island looks great with the cabs. Thanks for sharing. Any thoughts about the shape of my island. Would that rounded end on one side bother you. One more question. I am also wondering if it would be better to put an L shaped banquette where the hutch and window seat is. Then a rectangular table with that to give more floor space. Not sure is it would seem like everything was up against the wall though. Having a freestanding table might balance the room a little better. Thanks, I feel like I have to make so many decisions now and fast!...See MoreKitchen Island help - is clearance too small?
Comments (31)This is my personal opinion - I think it would be awful - its likely to feel way more cramped than your existing layout. The dishwasher, range and refrigerator doors can hit each other. In your drawing, you show the proper depth for a counterdepth ref, but ranges are 27" - 28" deep and their doors generally need to stay in front of the cabinet line - you ain't countersinking it into the island - it would void your warranty right there - aside from driving a blding inspector insane. So - you know that 30" aisle - it goes down to about 22" right in front of the ref and range. Do you know how far out a cabinet drawer comes these days? 21-23" depending the mfg - not including the handles. Do you know how big a tall tub dishwasher door is? 28" How far a range door sticks out? From 16" to 21" from the already extended depth. How much front clearance does the freezer door/drawer need? How the heck will you get the ref or range into place? Or take them out for service or replacement. Plus, now you have the chance to knock pots off the range if you make even a small mistake on the other side of the island. Plus, plus YOU END UP WITH LESS PREP SPACE because you moved the ref and the range. Personally, I would put the sink/ref/dish storage/micro on one side wall and the range on the other. I would shorten and narrow the existing island (maybe 30 x 51 finished counter) to allow for better clearances, but also better access from one side to the other. I would think about pushing it all the way over to the window (more like an ungrounded peninsula)....See MoreKitchen cabinets, island, small office nook colors/combos questions
