Photos Please - Hood Different Color than Adjoining Cabinets?

We have to make a final decision on our kitchen cabinet paint color. We are doing a linen color (with distressed glaze) on the main cabinets and the island will be a rubbed black. We had originally planned for our custom wood hood and the cabinets directly under the cooktop (basically the pot drawers and posts) to also be in the rubbed black. Does anyone have a picture of something similar where the hood/cabinets below are a different color paint or stain than the adjoining cabinets.

I know i will love my island in rubbed black (my current island is already that color) but was having second thoughts about the hood being that color as well since its sooo dark! And the black tends to show spots, etc a bit more easily than the lighter cabinets.

Any thoughts/pictures would be much appreciated. Have not picked a countertop or backsplash yet, but counter likely going to be a light limestone that i found that I love.

The scale of this kitchen may be a bit off, but I think the colors must be quite close. Good luck.

That is beautiful granite. We are in the process of building a house, well really renovating and adding on, and I am working with an interior designer. Since he is really good and has won numerous awards in our area, I figure I'll throw in what he told me. I have seen a lot of pictures of kitchens with two stones that look good together that look good, but the designer with whom we are working is strongly advising me against it. Instead, he thinks that if I want two surfaces, I would be better off doing the other counter top in something like butcher block or stainless steel. He says if it ever works, you either need to go very simple with back splash or at least one of the stones or one of the granites needs to be pretty plain.

Angie, found your comment interesting. I have a bottle green Blue Star 30 RNB. Love the range, but like Tina have often thought may-be I should have gotten black or brown-black rather than green. I do like the green with the wood, and it restates the green used throughout our house, but still I sometimes think I should have gone with something more neutral, and that black or stainless would have been more "authentic" looking as we have a period looking kitchen. Do not want to hijack Tina's thread -- may-be we should do a thread on color range -yes or no?

Update Spoke to builder and he prefers these since they are longer lasting bulbs. They are led but use regular wire. He feels they provide better task lighting and less failure. The tape lighting sticky tap moves (which a friend has and it does unstick)He suggested I try a strip led light and see how I like it. I picked Your friend has shared a link to a Home Depot product they think you would be interested in seeing. 16 ft. White Indoor LED Tape Light w/remote (Plug-in or direct wire) https://www.homedepot.com/p/307883100 It seems that there are a bunch of tiny dots vs several bulbs. The diffuser doesn’t seem to hide the dots. It’s a very stark white vs the lights I have is warmer. He can change them for no cost. He said the tape lights are cheaper than what he installed. It would require changing all of the wiring but luckily the countertop is not installed. Either way I still need the light rail. My builder said people had moved away wanting the light rail but he really thinks it finishes the kitchen Anyone have a specific light that they can post with picks showing how it reflects on a shiny countertop. You’re really helping me out. @emmarene9 @Bev i was nervous that if I didn’t do a white wall it would look like too many colors that didn’t connect, but I have a tendency to fear things looking too “busy“ so it’s nice to hear you both think the cabinets with a black backsplash will be fine with a neutral or gray wall (non-white). I painted a little bit of the white on the wall and it feels a little like an asylum. @Beth those tiles are gorgeous I’m going to check out Diesel. I like them all, but you’re right perhaps I need to wait for the countertop to get a real feel for the kitchen. Thinking I should do a brass faucet to match the pulls on the cabinets to help tie it all together. Ya’ll are awesome! Thank you!

I wish I had exactly what you are looking for. I have
combinations that you can look over. Maybe this can
help you finalize your plans.

You are looking for a hood/cabinets below are a different
color paint or stain than the adjoining cabinets. A linen
color (with distressed glaze) on the main cabinets and the
island will be a rubbed black.

Go for it, the dark hood instead.

I'm working on a kitchen with white cabinets and a red hood. The red hood will have a distressed finish. The island will have a black stain.
I think your combination will be beautiful as black or as a stain. Here's a picture of faux wood next to white where the island is also wood.

I really like this look also and had planned to do it for my kitchen- which is offwhite with glaze perimeter and distressed walnut island and hutch. However, I think we changed our mind and will keep the hood white. The reason is that our KD suggests we may have too much going on in the kitchen in terms of focal points and it might compete. However, looking at some of these photos is getting me wavering again! Im bookmarking this thread!

This photo is from a 2008(?) Wellborn Catalog. You'll notice that the cabinets below the hood aren't black, but that may be an option for you if you want to lighten it up a little.

In my kitchen, I have maple cabinets with a cherry stained finish but the island, hood (not cabinets below) and nearby hutch are painted cream.
