log home - not sure where to start
Comments (7)Designer. . I don't care for the loin cloth bikinis that the drapes are wearing here but the idea is to blend rustic, natural, earthy elements with Traditional or Contemporary furnishings while still avoiding the 'lodge look'. . Very Contemporary. . Homey. . The antlers in a kitchen are kind of "Ooopht" but there is still some good kitchen inspiration here. . Unless you are going to make an art statement with the stairwell I would go with a non-log banister for a clean Contemporary feel. Art statement: . Let the home's architectural features shine by using plain furniture. If the log home is plain you can jazz it up a bit. . Since you will have some plain sheetrock walls in the home make sure you use decorating items on the wall or against that space that will help transition between the log walls. Otherwise the plaster wall will look like an add-on afterthought and stick out like a sore thumb. Something like this hung on a plain plaster wall over a sleek Modern sofa brings it together. . When you say your designer said that log homes can never be decorated in Modern I am thinking that he truly means *Modern* and you actually mean more of a *Contemporary* motif....See MorePlease help, not sure where to start

Comments (11)I like your house ,,, nicely done!! As far as paint color, in my opinion ,,, the blue in your kitchen is a "bright" color whereas the sage color is "muted". If you took that sage color and turned it into a light lime green (think granny smith apple), then the colors would pop together (look at the inspiration photo of the spider plant next to the blue paint). For that blue ,,, I would pair with (in the same tone and intensity) lime green, yellow, tangerine, or crisp white. It really depends on how much color you want. I can see a yellow or tangerine in your dining room with those teal chairs, but I also like lime green. I would not go with tan, I would do a crisp white before tan, if I wanted to go neutral. A "tan" that would work with that color blue, I think might clash with your hardwood floors. With the hardwood floors and the mix of woods in that space (which I really like, by the way) I would put white on the walls and bring in color with accents (pillows, rugs, pictures). Also, what's up with the red room in the background? Do you like that room? Is that color staying? I really like your fireplace. Have you ever considered painting the brick? If you do go with a bright color on the wall, you might want to consider painting it white and leaving the accents black. Good luck ,,, can't wait to see the after pictures!! :)...See MoreHelp! Comments (2)DH and I just did a similar partial diy on our kitchen, although we're not quite finished. We started by making a list of what needed to be done in the order we thought would work best. The list ends with "Dance of Joy". We haven't danced yet and we started in January 2008. We hired individuals for each job we didn't do ourselves. I may forget something, but here's a general list in order: 1. Bought appliances from Sears (they will hold them as long as you want and deliver when you are ready). 2. Stripped wall paper and patched walls. 3. Hired plumber to remove dishwasher and sink. 4. Removed and painted lower cabinets. Painted upper cabinets in place (tossed the old doors). 5. Removed old moulding and old vinyl floor and 1 layer of subfloor. 6. Ordered new cabinet doors. 7. Primed and painted walls 8. Electrician hired to wire for undercabinet lighting and over sink spots. 9. New red oak hardwood installed by professional floor company to match existing hardwood in living room and dining room. Lower cabinets re-installed. Hardwood pros return to sand and poly floor. Appliances delivered. Soapstone company templates and then installs soapstone and sink about two weeks later. Plumber returns to hook up sink, replace dishwasher, hook up water line to fridge and install faucet. Cabinet doors finally arrive and DH installs. Still working on the moulding. Good luck!...See Morekelmorg
