DH and I just did a similar partial diy on our kitchen, although we're not quite finished. We started by making a list of what needed to be done in the order we thought would work best. The list ends with "Dance of Joy". We haven't danced yet and we started in January 2008. We hired individuals for each job we didn't do ourselves. I may forget something, but here's a general list in order:

1. Bought appliances from Sears (they will hold them as long as you want and deliver when you are ready).

2. Stripped wall paper and patched walls.

3. Hired plumber to remove dishwasher and sink.

4. Removed and painted lower cabinets. Painted upper cabinets in place (tossed the old doors).

5. Removed old moulding and old vinyl floor and 1 layer of subfloor.

6. Ordered new cabinet doors.

7. Primed and painted walls

8. Electrician hired to wire for undercabinet lighting and over sink spots.

9. New red oak hardwood installed by professional floor company to match existing hardwood in living room and dining room.

10. Lower cabinets re-installed.

11. Hardwood pros return to sand and poly floor.

12. Appliances delivered.

13. Soapstone company templates and then installs soapstone and sink about two weeks later.

14. Plumber returns to hook up sink, replace dishwasher, hook up water line to fridge and install faucet.

15. Cabinet doors finally arrive and DH installs.

16. Still working on the moulding.

You also asked about price. We intended to spend between $15,000 and $20,000, and we'll probably end up between $17,000 and $18,000. Since you aren't replacing your cabinet doors, are refinishing rather than installing new hardwood, and aren't replacing all of your appliances, I'd imagine you'd need to spend less than we did. You could probably get estimates from a few carpenters to do your extra cabinets and banquette.
