HELP Subway tile shower, marble hex floor but what for shower floor?

After reading the scary posts about marble hex being a no no at least for shower floor, I have been successfully scared away from it. I don't trust the installers (who are subs of our builder) and I'm far away and can't oversee what they are doing. I have also read bad reviews on their install work, so don't trust them to do it right with the dangers of it. My original plans were to do marble hex over entire bathroom floor and shower floor, with white 4x8 subway for shower tile and tub surround (it has to be tile surround for tub they won't do anything else). So I am desperate to find a new idea for a shower floor instead of marble hex!?! Ideally, I'd like to keep the marble hex on the bathroom floor itself because I don't think they can screw that up that bad since there won't be a drain/ wet issue, but I need a new material by tomorrow for the shower floor itself! I feel like 3 different tiles would be a design no no, I'd have to go white tile for shower floor I think but should it be mini subway like 2x4 or white small hex, same size as the real marble on floor or would that look stupid? It's a craftsman lite home lol so I like the idea of some modern and some classic things mixed in, and I really was hoping for marble hex floors for the bathroom for that look but I definitely don't want it for shower floor itself now... I could give up and do like 12x24 porcelain carrara look for all floor tile but I just feel like faux will ruin the look for me when I had my heart set on the marble hex and I like the multi tones of the hex vs just the mostly white/ slight gray for the porcelain... Desperate for shower floor advice!! PLEASE HELP haha :) photos below are bath photos I like and I would do similar wall colors but haven't decided which (bottom photo is more powdery blue violet - i would do a grayer blue for mine) Also, we will have an alcove shower, separate tub (but not claw foot or anything it will have the 4x8 surround also) and white double vanity with msi carrara vincenza quartz top (mostly white with super light grey no black or dark grey in it)

Those are beautiful bathrooms! What about white pebble stone for the shower floor? They have some in the colors of the hex or pure white. I love them and hope to have them on my shower floor someday. They remind me of a spa.

hello Jillianfl. Top photo is the one I used to remodle my last bathroom. I loved it and got lots of compliments on it. I'm now renovating a new home, and I have the same concerns about the shower flooring. Did you end up getting some advice? What did you end up going with? Thanks in advance!

Positano-- Sorry this is a little late-- I didn't see your reply when you posted it. But in answer to it, you might want to read a thread that Stacey posted over at "that other tile forum" (GW won't let me post the name for some reason or a link) called Help solve MYSTERY? Marble tile shower floor always "wet" in some areas?. To this day, I still don't know what caused the problem, nor does anyone else, no matter WHAT they (Artistic Tile) say. No one can prove to me what the problem was, and every possibility that's been suggested, I can tear apart technically speaking. Even one of the top forensic experts in the country (Dave Gobis) got in on this, and couldn't come up with a definitive answer. One thing I DO know for sure, though. I was skeptical about sealing the floor to start with, and after it was sealed, moisture had trouble excaping the stone, and it stayed dark in areas. After I tore it up and redid it, Stacey left it unsealed, and she's had no discoloration problems (or any others, that I know about!) since.

I think marble is probably too fancy for your 1940s cape cod, too. Not that you asked. But a modest house like that would never had marble in the bathroom originally.

FYI, we have that black and white flooring in our guest bathroom. It works well in the small space, has held up well, however, it does show every hair and speck of dirt. I've learned solid colors tend to do that versus slight patterns (our master bath has marble with slight natural veining). I'd leave the tile samples on your floor for a couple days so you know what to expect.

With the perimeter of the floor staying wet longer, it can be because of reduced slope at the wall, but with a foam tray, that usually does not happen. It is more of an issue with mud pans. Often times it can simply be residual shower water sheeting off the walls after the shower is complete. Water slowly travels down the wall, hits the corner grout joint and sits. Do check the wall/floor grout joint. They can sometimes be raked out too much, creating a small depression which can hold water versus shed it. With all that written? The Kerdi system is a good one. Marble, while a pretty stone, does have its disadvantages in wet environments. It's tendency to absorb and hold moisture is the main culprit that homeowners find offensive. That absorptive nature can sometimes lead to iron deposits within the stone oxidizing (rusting) within the stone, causing discoloration.
