how to tell hot pepper seedlings from bell pepper seedlings? Help
Comments (3)Unfortunately, I don't have a way to take pictures (ancient cell phone, no camera). BUT I have noticed today that the plants that were darker in leaf colour have got a stiff spike of what I think must pass for its flowers growing up out of the very top of several of the plants -- I don't remember peppers ever doing that. I'm thinking they might not be peppers at all but weeds? I planted another set of 6 just hot peppers in a container and they have started sprouting (only 6 and only where I put the seeds :). Is it safe to say I can pull out those plants with the funky flower shoot and try again in their place some bells?...See MoreMystery Pepper identification?
Comments (11)Thanks all, for your replies. @Bill I left them on for 2 weeks, one started with black spots and the other started to wrinkle. They were the first pods and since this one had been topped due to damping off it survived, and those pods were close to the ground than they normally would be if not topped. I have about 40-50 more pods that are green, I will hold out to see if they go red. They at this point have good heat and nice almost sweet after taste once you get past the heat, no need to get the milk but would say if my Wife and kids tried they would run for milk. If not guess they would be peach or pink habs. Mark...See MoreMystery Hot Pepper
Comments (9)Thanks Craig and PP. I'm away for a week on the boat and I reckon we'll have colour by the time I get home. It's a quite thin, light-fleshed number and a nice tall loaded bush. Another one I got from you PP is alongside and flowering. So it will be interesting to know what it is. A common name would be fine. I brought two haberneros on the boat and gee those orange bells are nice and hot. I let the jalapenoes ripen to red but no heast there. Cheers, Grub....See MoreMystery Peppers
Comments (4)I think you solved the mystery. I had originally only nibbled on the flesh of the pepper which was flavorless with no heat. After further experimentation, which included eating an entire pepper, the heat is definitely there in the seeds and membrane. Still not much flavor though. Definitely a starfish pepper. Thank you habjolokia!!...See Moretheniceguy
