Oh how awful. Sad enough to go to a funeral, but the waiting was very difficult. Seriously, don't leave home w/o your cell phone and same for him. Hope you don't get sick over it, being too chilled.

I’m sorry for all the confusion. But why wouldn’t someone at the church let your DH go sit with you in the first place? Knowing you were already there and holding a spot for him, he should have been allowed to go downstairs. Good grief, it’s like someone gets up to go to the bathroom or something and then told they can’t go back to their seat downstairs!

Sheesh, I am ranting too, and wish your DH hadn’t left you.

I'm so sorry. My ex did something similar to me when I was 9 months pregnant. Left me and a grocery cart full of food to go to an ATM to get more money out. I waited for an hour in the store. Then finally went outside and sat on the curb, my feet and back were killing me. I ended up walking all the way home alone (many blocks in Phoenix/Peoria AZ area) and it started raining on the way home. I had to pee so bad by the time I got home that when I crawled in one of the unlocked windows I didn't quite make it to the bathroom. My house keys were in my purse, which were in our car. I was so mad. He finally showed up at home after about 2 hours. I don't know what men are thinking sometimes or if they do think.

I'm laughing Kathsgrdn because if we weren't married for 60 years, he would be my ex now! Couldn't wait to get my p.j.'s and bathrobe on and as if I wasn't cold enough, I had to ice my knee!

I'm cold just reading your experience, today, georgysmom! Been that kind of day here to stay home, in pj's with a blanket and heating bad across my shoulder. Stay well you hear!

That is a BAD day! I could feel the cold and dampness, as you wrote.. I would have felt the same way....an ex-husband in the making. I try to have my phone with me in case of something like this.

This is why cell phones can be life savers....essential devices for older folks.

Sorry you had such a bad day. That sound awful.

I do recommend carrying your cell phone in case of an emergency. Dh and I often take separate vehicles to events. It's nice to know where the other one is sitting so we can sit together. Also, DH likes to go biking. He has an app that sends me an ongoing map of his location. If something happens, I know where to look or he can call and I can pick him up. I've had to do that a couple of times.

I think you shouldn't let your DH off the hook for say another 60 years! So sorry for your loss. Sorry you had to be out in the cold. Sorry that your DH was too far on The 'only' Human Side today. And so glad you can have wine! Have a glass for me as I can't when the bad days come. Keep warm! Except for for your knee.

Oh my gosh...what was he thinking? Evidently he has never had bad painful joints. Why didn't he tell the usher that you were saving him a seat? I hope the rest of your week goes well.

I'm sorry too..just curious..knowing that he drove you there what was his reason for going home alone..I've been married 43 years and so far he's never left me anywhere..he might have been tempted to but hasn't done it lol..

You know what...hearing your story just reminded me how that would be something my husband would do. I hope you've warmed up. It wasn't a nice day to be standing around for sure.

It seems we may have the same husband. My DH is brilliant and usually very caring, but like his fourth grade teacher told his mother, "Sometimes he is just not with us."

Sorry for your bad day, warm up and forgive his thoughtlessness (but teach him a lesson in thoughtfulness).

Oh my goodness what a conundrum! I think I would have had a student call me a taxi or Uber. You certainly could end up with a bad cold or pneumonia from that kind of wet chill. Take care of yourself!

I agree with Outside. DH should have explained that he had a seat waiting for him.

So sorry. Odd things do happen. Not only are cell phones essential for this very reason, but if you don't know how to text, now would be the time to learn.

Your phone can be on silent so that no one will be disturbed when you get a text.

I remember years ago, before cell phones, the mix-ups I would have with friends or relatives. Really no explanation of why things could go wrong with something as simple as meeting in front a movie theater or restaurant.

Raven, one of the college students did ask if she could call Uber for me but I thought what if he realized what if he went to the reception following the service, realized I wasn't there and came back looking for me. Hope springs eternal. DH was feeling really bad this morning. He came home from walking the dog and said he was depressed. When I asked why?, he said he couldn't believe it never occurred to him to check the front of the church. If only he back the street he drove down to park, he would have seen me there. I forgot to mention, it was also very windy. My umbrella blew inside out and the ribs got bent...........it's ready for the trash. Fortunately it was only misting not pouring. As Moni said, some day we will just laugh about it, but right now I think I'll milk it just a little bit more. :-)))
