Mantel Decor
Comments (5)Take the iron square piece off for now. Slide the mirror over to the left, so that it sits a few inches in from the edge of the mantel. Now hang the iron piece on the right side, above the boxes (and pull them in to the left a bit so they don't hang off the end of the mantel). Hang the iron piece so that it gives some height, but is still a couple of inches below the top line of the mirror. Take the two glass candle holders and put the same color candle in both (preferable something like the red, to bring some color besides browns up there. Place them in the center area, grouped with the diffuser. Get some red dried flowers or sticks of some kind to add to the diffuser to help link them with the candle color. (I did that in the fall by adding some dried wheat stalks, which also absorbed the diffuser oil). Try placing the tall metal bottle on the left end, in just a bit from the edge of the mirror so it overlaps, and if the top is open, add a few of the ecucalyptus stems that I see down below. The metallic gold bottle doesn't seem to fit in, but if you really still want it up there, place it tucked to the right and a bit forward of the tall metal bottle....See MoreHow would you decorate this wall and mantel?
Comments (45)Thank you, CB! I'm still sold on a floral arrangement next to the TV, and maybe a solid color table runner. Roobear, thanks for the help but with the tv above the big fireplace, it looks like two black holes! lol. Also, having such a high technological piece above an 18th century FP defeats the purpose. No offense to anyone, but I don't like TV's above the FP. IMO, a FP should stand alone, except for regular decorating on top of it. No large clocks. They're too trendy. I also have a nice grandmother clock on the mantel which has beautiful westminster chimes. Hockeymom, I agree. The good thing is the room is sooo big the tv isn't even a focal point. It comes across as one in pictures, but it's not IRL. Maybe in a few years when the newness wears off of the stand, I'll get a nice piece of furniture for the TV..which is what I wanted in the first place..but oh well, dh was so proud of his purchase, I didn't have the heart to tell him it wasn't my cup of tea, but I've learned to live with it so it doesn't bother me anymore. I also remember he drove all over the city in his suit on a very hot summer afternoon shopping for TV's and stands. Men and their toys. :) When we're finished using the FP, I'll piddle around with the bucket and wood stand. Now dh has his chess board sitting behind the bucket! It's nice, but I may move it some & see if he notices. ;)...See Morehelp with decorating mantel with mounted deer head
Comments (6)Since this is an office, I think that if the deer is staying in the room that the fireplace is the best place to put it as it grounds it. I have some concern if it is on the small wall that it will overwhelm the space and someone is going to walk right into it. You and your husband get it figured out whether it stays or goes to his man cave and then the next step is to address the mantle. I don't know if "dress" is the right word when there is a deer near-by-lol.......See Moregas fireplace mantel decor ideas
Comments (2)Thanks but I think this picture is sufficient to at least get a couple of ideas tossed out...See MoreUser
