Desperately seeking oven...must be 24 inches! Need recs.
Comments (31)Hey Fori and All, I just ordered 2 Fisher Paykel 24" ovens and they're supposed to be here on Monday! They were $1599 each. I was looking at the Fagor one...sure is cute, but I couldn't find it locally and I decided it was too much of a gamble service wise. The price is tough to beat though! :-) As soon as I have my ovens I will post pictures for those of us who are space challenged in the oven department. I'm not sure what would look good next to a five star range...thinking maybe the DeLonghi like you said. It seems that a lot of the 24" ones are somewhat eurostyled with a sleek modern look...which fits into my 1950's modern house very nicely. I'm having some custom metalwork done as well as cabinet carpentry once the ovens are here...so it'll be a week or two til I have a completed install. I can't wait to see them...little scary ordering an appliance sight unseen. Pizza parties here we come :-) Anne...See MoreIkea Super Hack - Part 2
Comments (58)Dutty nails it with this quote: "Is Ikea for everyone? No. Are there better cabinets out there? Yes. But for the money, it's a VALUE and you can do amazing things with a little ingenuity. Plus, with the savings you can put drawers everywhere, inserts, soft close, etc. All of those would be UPGRADES with a cabinet company. The thing you need to be most careful with is who you hire to put it all together and PLAN. PLAN. PLAN⦠make sure you KNOW the product inside and out. " Dh was just drilling through a Home Depot particleboard panel that had an IKEA cabinet behind it. He remarked that it was incredible how much denser the IKEA cabinet side was compared to the no-name particleboard - not the same stuff at all. Also, he had a major allergy attack while working with the Home Depot particleboard - something he hadn't experienced during hacking the IKEA cabinets at all. I wondered if that's because IKEA particleboard is made to EU standards which limits some VOC levels, etc. It's a mistake to assume that all particleboard is created equal. IKEA wouldn't be able to warranty their kitchens for 25 years if their stuff was the same crappy material that my home's original 2001 builder grade cabinets were made from for example....See MoreHacking IKEA cabinets
Comments (23)You guys are soooo awesome! Tre...thanks for your advice & understanding my language! I have a feeling you're a really patient guy! spanky, no reason as to why cutting width weakens the integrity of the cabinet. But, after hearing all this great advice, including yours, I'm feeling much better now & am still going forward w/ it! You'll be the 1st to know if I find out why in my experience, tho! MizLizzie & scrappy, I am on w/ the blue tape! I've actually heard about that. My friend that's helping me brought that up last weekend. tbo, I like your idea of making the 1st cut not very deep & then flipping the board over to finish off. Great ideas! mouson & spanky, thank you for admitting you didn't know what to cut a little tree down w/ either! I can just picture both scenarios...thanks for the laughs! I'm not sure I'd know a hacksaw from a carpenter saw if they were both in front of me! If it has teeth & saws back & forth, it doesn't work on everything? I actually thought it was me & not the saw up until now! :) You guys are great. I'm feeling much more at ease now & can't wait to show my friend all of this great advice!...See More24" wall oven in 30" ikea cabinet?
Comments (1)I'm not completely familiar with IKEA Cabinetry, but many cabinet brands use a solid panel system on their wall oven cabinets. This solid panel is then cut out on site to the cut-out size requirements of the oven. If this is the case with the IKEA wall oven cabinet, there shouldn't be a problem fitting the 24". To be safe, measure the overall dimensions of you 24" or, if you know the model number of it, google that model number (if new enough) and you should find the installation instructions on-line. Compare those dimensions to the specs of the cabinet. Your IKEA Rep should have the minimum & maximum cut-out for that cabinet. Ask the IKEA Rep if the wall oven cabinet has a panel system or is it a frame that would need to be cut to size similarly to the panel. Only difference is that the frame is more limited to size of cut-out. Consider one thing though. Should you need to replace it, would you want a 30" wall oven? If so, many 30" ovens will not fit in the confines of a 30" cabinet. You'll need a 33" oven cabinet in that case. Plan now for the possibility later....See Morebubblyjock
