I was too small to know what was really happening but remember asking my parents why they had tears on their cheeks. Dad used to take us to the train Depot to greet the troop trains. He was too young for WWI & too old for WWII and told us it was the only way he knew to do his part. I snuggled on my Dad's lap each night as Gabriel Heater give the news- it was so scary to me. But not one of us 3 kids dared speak until it was over- if we did, we'd get a look & hushed! Daddy didn't have to utter a word. Children behaved tht way back then. I very clearly recall people running out of homes and businesses laughing, dancing and shouting "The war is OVER, the war os OVER!" My 81 y/o BIL recently told his GS & me of being ordered to clear a jammed gun barrel on a battleship that had been hit. He stopped, got a far away look that lasted for some time, and finished with sobs & tears running down his cheeks as he told of removing only parts left of two sailors bodies. My DS was shocked- in their 60 of marriage, he'd never told her. When my cousin returned from Germany, sometimes he'd just get up during a meal & quickly leave the table. After I was grown my Dad told he'd fought all the way through the country, then to concentration camps to free Jewish prisoners. He must have seen unspeakable horrors- but never spoke of any of it, at least to my knowledge. Makes me sick to hear sports figures & such called heroes...the REAL Heroes are or have been on the battlefields, fighting fires, criminals or saving lives. May God ever Bless them all! Suzi

It's probably the rootstock. I would mark those canes and see if they bloom again this summer, if not it's almost positively the rootstock. Dr. Huey is a once bloomer that only blooms on old wood. If it reblooms you know it's not Dr Huey rootstock. If it's rootstock most likely the grafted rose will die out and Huey will take over. Someone more knowledgable will have to advise if there is any chance of saving the grafted plant by cutting those newer canes off all the way down below the ground - my only experiences with Dr Huey were cases where the grafted plant had completely died off during bad winters and I ended up removing the entire plant.

Right now, sticking to fuss free roses actually in bloom or about to (re)bloom, *Anna Olivier - perhaps the most reliable ebullient rebloom in the yard - tied for reliable rebloom with *Purpurea (winecup) - flowers are very frequent if also very fleeting; but oh the lovely glaucus foliage! *Savannah and *Plum perfect - both get better every year; I like it that they are foliated all the way to the ground. Savannah's strong grapefruit scent is a bonus; blooms last a long time on the bush before dropping cleanly. *Perle d'Or - used to just tolerate her because of the tendency to chlorotic leaves but dumped lots of gypsum and milorganite on her last year; she's been bettter since - spring flush had bigger flowers and smelled very good this year -- still fairly fuss free There are others I might have mentioned a month ago or a month from now. (maggie for best spring flush; softee for all round performance; star of the republic for most beautiful flower and most haunting scent; yellow mutabilis for that je ne sais quoi -- but this is good for now )

@alley_cat_gw_7b The whole thing was just a disaster from the start. The reseller is Kigi Nursery, a reseller of the grower. This company never answered a single question I sent them in advance. Kigi is apparently too busy to either publish a phone number or answer questions before orders are placed. There is no phone number on the Contact Us page. No question sent by the Contact form was ever answered. No attempt to contact by email was ever answered. I even contacted the grower - whose job is not to answer questions for their reseller - and I begged them to get the reseller to contact me. The grower said they would pass the message and Kigi still did not contact me. All of these problems could have been avoided by just giving me the plant size before I placed an order. After I placed an order, the shipment date was missed and I asked about that by messaging in their order system, and that was ignored too. The first and only time Kigi nursery answered any question was when I complained about what I received. Now that I have the plants I am able to contact other resellers who claim to have three year old two-gallon plants that are identical size to what I received, and their price is $49, not $160. So the facts just do not add together. Kigi insists I received a five to six-year-old plant, but that plant is the identical size and appearance to what other resellers are selling as three-year-old plants. So I am angry because the company has no customer service at all, and they in fact sold me something at three times what its actual market price was. And the plant is smaller than what I wanted on top of that. Definitely, I will never do business with Kigi Nursery again, and anyone who is not local to them should probably find someone who has time to answer questions before ordering.
