Actually, it's your sofa on the left facing the chairs and possibly the love seat that need a table. The sofa facing the love seat has tables on each side therefore one in front isn't really necessary. You could take the table from your last layout, rotate it and place it closer to the sofa facing the chairs. Place a small table (very small) or garden stool to the right of the love seat for that person to place a drink on. Another option would be two storage ottomans that can be moved around depending on where someone is sitting. If the tops are firm enough a glass can be set on them when your feet aren't!! ;)

Wow. Thank you all! Love these suggestions! I don’t think painting it blue/green is the way to go (thanks for the images, Melissa, very helpful!) Maggie, I wish I could just touch it up with Howard’s, but it’s wood wrapped with linen fabric and so the dings and scratches are bright white and almost look like the table is plastered underneath the paint so I have to paint it one way or another. Norwood, the tortoise shell desk is gorgeous. But perhaps too too busy for my space? Maureen, I am in the process of getting new lamp shades. Love the other ideas as well! I would get a really beautiful piece of cloth with great colors and handmade design in whatever style you like and put a piece of glass over it.

Sounds like you're going to have a lot of furniture in that space! Recliners work better with side tables and if you have a coffee table with the sofa, you only need end tables if you have table lamps. If not, then eliminate end tables as the coffee table provides a spot for everyone to put down their drinks, etc. Without pictures, we can't really comment on the mix/match question.
