I have an open floor plan and am considering updating the lighting fixtures. I have a large picture that I don’t want to cover with a light fixture. Can I get away with recessed pot lights (LED) and no fixture over the dining room? I currently have pot lights around my skylight in the kitchen and thought to continue the look into the dining room space. I can always make a statement with new sconces on either side of the art. Thank you!

We have both. Similar set up to yours.

3 small recessed lights over the buffet (where your art is) which highlights artwork and the buffet.

2 directional recessed spots for the table.

Hanging light fixture over middle of table.

It's a great combo to get drama, task lighting, artwork featured and even create intimate ambiance.

All lighting on dimmers, of course.

I wouldn't recommend a pot rack/light over your dining table. Pot racks are only meant for kitchen islands. I wouldn't do it even if your kitchen island is part of your dining table. What do you think of these options below for your dining table? These are simple transition pieces to start from. Now sizing of the chandelier will depend on the size of your dining table. Good luck!

I would not use a fixture with exposed bulbs unless you have other sources of light for the area. Exposed bulbs as task lighting produces glare and is visually uncomfortable.

the crystal one is pottery barn, the others you can find all over. for some cost savings, try Lampsplusopenbox. great deals. https://www.lampsplusopenbox.com/chandeliers-category/island-usage/search.htm this one is nice too. 75watts for each bulb. that should be decent light for the island area they have this one too. not bad at $367. I'm considering the same and just posted a similar question. I'm considering pot lights instead of a fixture to keep the open concept clean looking. What did you end up doing?
