Thank you, CB! I'm still sold on a floral arrangement next to the TV, and maybe a solid color table runner. Roobear, thanks for the help but with the tv above the big fireplace, it looks like two black holes! lol. Also, having such a high technological piece above an 18th century FP defeats the purpose. No offense to anyone, but I don't like TV's above the FP. IMO, a FP should stand alone, except for regular decorating on top of it. No large clocks. They're too trendy. I also have a nice grandmother clock on the mantel which has beautiful westminster chimes. Hockeymom, I agree. The good thing is the room is sooo big the tv isn't even a focal point. It comes across as one in pictures, but it's not IRL. Maybe in a few years when the newness wears off of the stand, I'll get a nice piece of furniture for the TV..which is what I wanted in the first place..but oh well, dh was so proud of his purchase, I didn't have the heart to tell him it wasn't my cup of tea, but I've learned to live with it so it doesn't bother me anymore. I also remember he drove all over the city in his suit on a very hot summer afternoon shopping for TV's and stands. Men and their toys. :) When we're finished using the FP, I'll piddle around with the bucket and wood stand. Now dh has his chess board sitting behind the bucket! It's nice, but I may move it some & see if he notices. ;)

Thank you @grapefruit1_ar!! This is precisely the advice I was looking for... I decorate with a variety of Mercury glass Christmas trees, garland, balls, etc for Christmas... so I like decorating this area seasonally... Isn't that the fun of having a fireplace mantel? LOL. I went shopping yesterday and saw some cute wicker vases at Target (too small)... I'm thinking maybe a spring floral arrangement would look good or possibly a birdcage. I've been looking for an antique windowpane or a decorative arched cathedral wood frame that would fit... thinking I could stand it up instead of hanging it ... but it needs to be finished on both sides or I'll have to buy two lol. I have plenty of %&$ to stick up there... but balancing the height in that space seems to be my biggest challenge.

Hi. Happy New Year! That's a lovely fireplace! I would start over. The scale of the items is too small and they aren't working together. Design doesn't happen in a a vacuum. Harmony (everything working together) is the key to an excellent design. So, in order to help you, I would need 1) Photos of all 4 walls of the space. 2) An inspiration photo of what you want your room to look like (doesn't have to be exact, just an idea of a space/s you like). At that point, I can help you more. Thanks!

I agree with jck. I might have lined the bottom of the TV with the bottom molding line. Keep it simple…no additional decor with a TV there. Regarding the art on the right wall, the space between the two frames should be no more than about 57 inches from the floor. That applies to one piece or a grouping. Treat a grouping as one piece with the center at 57-ish inches from the floor. Pretty room…love the shutters! ETA - Just wanted to add that hanging art above furniture can affect distance. In that case, hang it so it ”connects” with the furniture…about 6-8 inches above the furniture usually works.
