No, I went through a cabinet company that sells different lines as well. I am pretty sure it's the same company. I've linked the website so you can verify. Yes I was satisfied with KM, however, I only have three cabinets from them in another bathroom. Have you looked at Schuler cabinets from Lowes? They are made by Medallion. The nice thing is that many of the upgrades are included so you don't feel nickled and dimed to death. They were not much more for my quote than the KM. I think right now they have 50% off the premium finishes. At this point, I am probably going with Medallion. While buying horse feed one day, I noticed a building supply place next door. So I walked in with my scuzzy jeans, dusty clothes just to get a business card. I ended up there for a half-hour with the nicest lady. She said she used to see all the lines but found that Medallion almost never came in damaged. She mentioned that as being the biggest complaint from customers. Obviously she is right. And the quality is excellent. She insisted on giving me a quote even thought I told her I was skeptical she could be reasonable. I sent her a floorplan and she gave me a quote that was right in line with my budget. It was an apples to apples comparison with KM, American Woodmark, and Schuler because I had the list of cabinets and special features I wanted in list form. Keep shopping. "Pleased enough" was not meant to be derogatory. I really like them. It's is just hard to determine the expectations of others on a forum like this. I live in a modest, turn of the century farmhouse. We have not scrimped but we are also not the "spare no expense" types either. My expectations for cabinets sound a lot like yours. They needed to look nice, last well, work well. I was not in need of a lot of custom doodles and options. Things I liked: they seem sturdy enough, they had plywood upgrade to 3/4 inch thickness I think, they were well packed, they had enough variety for us. Things I didn't like: there are a couple of my doors that have little marks along the edges (not very visible at all unless you have the door open) from shipping (I totally did not have the option to unpack every box and whine about how they looked to the nth degree). Some of the drawers don't close quite as aggressively as they need to so with the soft close I end up "finishing closing" them sometimes. As for the pull outs and stuff, they are built by me and put on pull out hardware available from Lee Valley. That's a whole other issue and if you go that way you might want some feedback about them. All in all I am very pleased with my MidContinent cabinets. They were a good value. They are DECIDEDLY better than what we had. I am not particularly hard on things so they will last a long time. I have Jim Bishop cabinets. In the first 12 months of wear I had many problems. 1) Finish wearing off around knobs. Looks like they are 20 years old. Poor quality finish. 2) Pantry closet (which wasn't cheap) split in half. 3) drawer under sink split in half 4) faded cabinet doors within 3 years. I complained early on... finally, a JB rep came to my house. He promised some repair. He never returned or called. Finally spoke with someone from JB who told me it was too late to do anything. AND... the wear and tear was my fault. I can't believe that the finish would wear off in the first year and that be my fault. Poor quality and poor customer service. Eventually I will have to replace the kitchen because of the worn out appearance. VERY DISAPPOINTED.

With the possibility of multiple cooks in the house, and children who will also be learning to cook and help in the kitchen, I'd include a prep sink on the island. Helpers can load or unload the DW, or gather dishes to set the table, without crossing into the prep path. I increased the seating overhang to 15"--the minimum recommended by the NKBA.I, too, live in a multi-generational, multi-cook, household--my daughter, her husband, and their two children live with me. I love my second sink!
