Need some help please on a few things in family room/kitchen
Comments (19)I think you want a trendy great room! Open spaces are in fashion. Most newer homes have them. I would remove that wall, especially if that is what you want. We have a great room in our current home. No wall divides the kitchen and living/family room. We love it! It's perfect for entertaining. When you entertain, everyone wants to be in the kitchen, but with a great room, they can be anywhere in the space, and still feel included. We have one of those open walls too in our new remodel (not done yet), and I wish the wall wasn't there, but it is not near the kitchen, and only open to the entry, so it will stay even though that opening is a dust collector, and too narrow to be of any use at all. To separate our current living space from the kitchen, we have a double reclining sofa/loveseat, so 4 recliners. Two desk consoles act as sofa tables, and hold our computers. If there is a fire in the fireplace, it can be enjoyed from anywhere as can the TV. I will miss the great room in our new home, but we still are living here till the reno is done. Comments (46)I tried to quickly scan through. I don't know if someone made this suggestion yet. Can you put doors on your cabinets? We had open shelves on either side of our fireplace. I had my husband make doors for them. He made frames and covered the inside of the frame with cane. (we had to since they hold our tv components and I was afraid that they would melt down if no air got to them.) But, you can get tons of different sized cabinet doors at the restore or something similar. With the ones my husband made, I just painted them and put them up with regular old hinges. They look pretty good. I was going with a more natural/coastal theme. So, they work well in here. Oh! I was thinking. If you have odd sizes (like we do) you could just have lowes cut you new doors out of that mdf and paint them. Just don't get really super thick mdf. It paints like a dream with a roller and you could get the odd sized cabs covered. Melamine doors if you don't want to paint. But... you don't have to do all of your shelves. Maybe just the bottom half. It will break up some of the visual clutter. And, you can hide actual clutter (like we do!) which is really the main thing. :) Kim...See MoreDesparately need help with lighting choices for great room/family room
Comments (6)The fixture above in my post is what I would like to install. The below link is similar to my dining room chandelier now, except mine is bronze with cream glass. I couldn't get the picture to upload. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Progress-Lighting-Renovations-27-25-in-6-Light-Forged-bronze-Etched-Glass-Tiered-Chandelier/50131632 I cannot post a picture of my space, hence the drawing, as it is presently under construction with materials and debris everywhere. I hope this helps....See MoreNeed help with family room curtains and decorating advice.
Comments (12)Solid color for window treatments . overhead lighting is only one layer of lighting for a room you will need lamps maybe evn floor lamps and we need to know the size of the room the pieces of furniture you are having upholstered and their sizes. What is the tile in the picture of the fabric. I would for sure take the light out of the fan and mke sure all the lighting is LEDs ideally in 4000K to keep the colors you choose true in all times of day. I would choose a color from the rug, you will be getting, for the window coverings most likely drapes and make sure they are at leasy 2 1/2 x the width of the rod I have no idea how much natural light you get in the space but if quite a lot you will solard shades to protect your new floors and fabrics they will provide heat and UV protection and still allow you to keep the view during the day and also provide privacy during the day. Make sure you get a darker color for the shades in 10% they give the best protection and allow the best view. Do you have the spot for the TV already then please share that ....See MoreRelated Professionals
