Master Bedroom Decorating Challenge!
Comments (20)lateforthesky & malkia: the paint color is Sherwin Wms Softer Tan (SW6141) and ceiling Moderate White (SW6140). It's several years old already though. Not sure it still exists. I love it though. It changes with the light and is very warm. les917: thanks. I don't aspire to look like a magazine pic every day, but when the bed is made, it does look "put together" in there, which I like. I usually keep my quilt folded under my bed and when it's just my husband and I home for days on end, I make the bed up with sheets/blanket folded only. When "company" comes, I'll go ahead and do the bed up. I seriously hate the hassle of all the pillows on a daily basis, but I love the way they look on the bed. Oh well. Lazy I guess. Anyway, hey, I might just try your suggestion of moving the chest over to the same wall as the triple dresser. That would sure free up room there, especially since that is MY side of the bed and it's a wee bit tight when I've got to manuever in the dark! Will let you know how that looks. The dresser is on felt slides, so I can easily try it over there (with hubby's help sliding it). vamiressrn: thanks too, I used to want a quilt stand, but at the same time, they are all a little too "country" for the room, so I nixed the idea. I thought about an accent chair over in that corner, but since I know in my heart I'd never sit there, I thought it would be silly. I really don't like having things take up space that aren't truly functional in some way. Besides, I've already got that chaise in there that is like a focal piece for the sitting room. My husband loves to sit there and watch TV with his laptop on his lap and a cup of tea while I'm watching a show on the big TV that he doesn't care to see....See Morehelp decorating new/smallish bedroom
Comments (10)I think the height of the bed is fine. I would put the nightstand on the other side of the bed, to give you just a little distance from the wall. The bed won't feel so jammed in, and it will be easier to make the bed. I would skip spending money on the headboard for now, and get a flat tv. You can get a really nice sized one for very little money these days, and that will make a huge difference in how the room feels there. Watch Craigslist for an inexpensive dresser that can serve as storage and hold the tv on top. Add a lamp there as well, and you can eliminate the need for the harsh overhead lighting. I would move the fan to the other side of the tv, so that it not only points out toward your bed but also to the rest of the room. I think the blinds are fine - adding a valance up above will soften the window but not crowd the room. Craigslist is also a source for a taller nightstand and a taller lamp that will help fill the wall space and give you nicer lighting in the room. The nightstand could be a bookcase or small cabinet to give you additional storage as well as style. Once you get all the major pieces in place, then you can add some inexpensive art. Frame some inexpensive photos or postcards or even pieces of cool scrapbook paper. Do enough (maybe 5 in a line above the bed)to have visual impact and take the place of a headboard. Love your bedding! Do you have an accent color in mind?...See MoreHelp with bedroom decor and furniture?

Comments (6)Do you own or rent? I ask, because the first thing I would do is paint. Maybe green; something not stereotypically a "boy" or "girl" color if that is likely to provoke disagreements. Because the space is so small (especially for the number of kids), you don't have a lot of space for art or "stuff." Adding a runner on the floor would be one opportunity to add color and interest, as well as being functional. Depending on the ages of the kids, you might think about a full length mirror on one of the wardrobe doors. It would give an extra place for hair brushing and primping (I'm assuming since you are short on bedrooms you are probably also short on bathrooms)....See MoreAdelaine
