To answer ajsmama's questions: The china cabinet and console are both approx. 36" wide and 18" deep. There isn't room for furniture to the left of the french doors because there are double windows there (I love window : ) The table is oval. Sue I think you're right that the china cabinet would look awkward between the french doors and bay. Too much going on. Maybe I should go back to the idea of built in cabinets with window seat. And then look for a narrow, long antique console to dress up the long wall. It's a good idea to mark off the floor. Thanks everyone.

What a pretty room. I also think the urn is too large for the table, and it looks good in front of the mirror. Other suggestions - the pair of lamps on the sideboard should be moved in a bit, so that the outer edges of the shades do not hang over the edge of the table. I think they could also come towards the front of the table just a tad. Not centered, front to back, but not pushed back so far. I would also pull the chairs on either side closer to the buffet. Doing these things allows the pieces to relate to each other more than they are now. The first thing that grabs my attention when I look at your pictures are all the pairs seemingly in a row - lamps, silver pumpkins, candle votives. When you change out the sconces, use art in those areas. Pull more blue and gold (not silver) from the peacock art if you're trying to keep the room more monochromatic. But my next purchase would be a beautiful rug, then more art. What color are the walls? It's a beautiful color. The room has a romantic vibe going. How would you feel about painting the ceiling a cut down version of the wall color?

I can see the option for a longer sideboard but if the shorter one were centered & had appropriate art above I don’t see why that wouldn’t work. A super long pice of furniture is great if there is one that makes your heart sing & it fits and you need the storage there ( & who doesn’t need more storage) , but then it’s less versatile, harder to move and usually much more $$, fewer options, so I think most people likely to buy cheapo item.

Wow! Very good job! And now you have everything at your fingertips! And know where things are! Huge improvement! If you enjoy seeing the instruments on the shelfs, that’s your reward for all this great work. And it keeps some fairly open space too. You could hang on walls as art as Calidesign mentioned above. But somehow I think on the shelfs will help you keep shelves in order. But certainly a personal choice! My only wish, is we could hear some music from you!!!
