Buffet in Dining Room
Comments (5)Definitely no requirement! You don't even have to have any other piece of furniture - you could warm things up with large artwork or a large mirror. But I like the idea of bookcases. Perhaps finish a shorter wall entirely in floor to ceiling bookcases. (You can buy stock bookcases from unfinished furniture places (or even Ikea, if you don't mind it not being real wood) and pretty inexpensively do a built-in look by trimming them out with stock trim.) Or, center one large bookcase on a wall. It's also an interesting idea to do shorter cases and leave a shelf on top for serving....See Morebuilt in "hutch" or "buffet" in dining room
Comments (12)If you include the sink, then the coffee maker will work well, and you could have a roll-out tray for it, from one of the pantries, similar to amanda's in this thread. Do you have an upper cabinet next to the fridge? You can put the MW on a shelf beside it, or have a MW drawer in the island. How do you use the MW? Mostly for kid's snacks, re-heating left-overs from the fridge, cooking rice or steaming vegetables? That would be the deciding factor for me. ETA, I have an 18" deep buffet in the DR, with storage below (not pantry items) and open shelves above, for china. I made it 3.5" taller than a standard counter, because it has a vent under it, which I didn't want to reroute. That height works fine for us. Although I rarely serve food from it, it's convenient for extra table service and to place lids from the serving dishes on the table. Sometimes I scoop papers and other clutter from the table and quickly deposit them on the buffet before dinner, but then I have to declutter eventually. I really like having it--it adds a lot of personality to the room, and I can see my pretty china from where I sometimes prep at the end of the island. :) The most important item I store there is the fire extinguisher, because it's not in the kitchen, but very close, and in the path from my bedroom to the kitchen....See MoreShould I match my buffet table to the dining room table?
Comments (5)Can you post a picture? I am getting a sofa table that will be next to my DR table and I’m having it made by a local craftsman. He’s matching the wood of my table. In my case, legs are white and table a light-medium wood. He’s doing that for the sofa table. A picture will help though....See Moremusty smell out of new dining room table and buffet.
Comments (1)If mildew or mold has gotten past the finish and into the wood, wiping it down is not going to fix it. I don't think there is anything you can do but insist they take it back. It could have been in a damp storage facility waiting to be purchased, maybe unheated, which could allow it to become mildewed. Not sure of the country of origin, but it also could have been manufactured with smelly (mildewed or moldy) wood, then when the finish was added it just captured the smell. If your retailer won't make it right, try the manufacturer, try your credit card company (if you charged it, but time is limited for those remedies). Some credit cards also put a warranty on large purchases, so explore that option. If all else fails, I'd go after the retailer on any social media presence they have and leave bad reviews wherever you can. That might shake them into some positive action....See Morebarb5
