any painted picnic tables out there??
Comments (7)Thanks everyone!! I googled the chairs, very helpful!! And tried some more painted picnic table googling. I'm just not finding "that one". Although I LOVE the idea of the game boards, and may give that a shot. I can't help but want to do something with flowers, or polka dots :) 4 little boys around, I kind of what a space that's about ME. Hope that doesn't sound selfish. But, everything is about sports, cowboys, and starwars around here. I'd love to be able to create a space that was less masculine. Even my living room/kitchen I try to keep neutral. And no, it's not in the sun. It's under my covered patio out my back door. For that reason, I'm hesitant to use it. As I know it would look better out in a yard, under a tree somewhere. But, we live in a newish cookie cutter house. Only tree is about 5 ft tall :) I just couldn't pass it up when it was given to us. And last summer we tried to sit out there on the wicker love seat and two chairs for dinner. Not too funy with plates balancing on our laps :) Although there won't be a LOT of meals out there, due to the heat and bugs by mid summer. Thanks again!...See Morerestaining a cedar picnic table
Comments (5)If there is no prior stain you can get a wash with oxalic acid in it (the more the better or better straight oxalic acid. Let it sit a while on the surface and do it's thing...keep it wet. This will brighten the wood. Then rinse off. Be careful with a power washer, you can damage the wood. Lower psi and higher gpm (gallons per minute) is best. Start with the wand far from the surface and work your way closer. Then let dry and sand, the water will raise the grain. If there is stain you'll need to strip it off first. Use potassium or sodium hydroxide. Do this before the oxalic wash. Mixed chemical light strength first you can always make it stronger. Power wash as said above. Then wash with oxaclic right away. If on grass keep the grass wet or it will be brown. I would do this in light rain, if on grass. Always use personal protection equipment. Sorry, didn't see the part about not wanting to strip the previous coating. So just wash, sand stain. Just match stain type, water base or oil. You'll probably want to wash and recoat horizontal surfaces every year to keep it looking good. Vertical surfaces could go about 3 years before recoating...See MoreBuilt a Picnic Table

Comments (154)It was funny to see this thread come back, it reminded me I should post some pictures of where I am at and how things are looking. Table is in the spot you all helped me with. I have added an area rug for the sofa, and pillows. I am having a large walnut burl coffee table being made, should be done in about a month. The current coffee table we have is just too small with the size of the sofa. I have a new fan for the ceiling which has a light in it, just waiting for the electrician to install. I plan on replacing the two dark brown leather chairs at the table with something lighter, maybe a beige or off white. Not sure yet but I feel the dark brown chairs are too dark. I got side tables for the sofa which match the live edge table. One of you said Rome wasn’t built in a day, so true. It’s been a fun project. Thanks once again for all your help!...See Moremamapinky0
