Need help with new fig and ants feeding on mysterious object

I have a fig I just planted about 10 days ago. Ordered online and arrived as just a 3ft stick with roots.
Its just starting to break dormancy and has a couple small green buds starting to come in. (the trunk has also started turning green as well - normal?)
However today it had super small black ants (1-2mm in size) which appeared to be feeding on these translucent oval things. I could easily wipe the oval things right off.
Im super green (pun intended) when it comes to fruit trees so have no idea what’s happening and if I should be worried.
Hopefully the photo shows up where you can see two of the oval, transluscent things with one ant feeding(?). The brown stick is bamboo support.

Comments (11)Flaming wok, Well if eating your own doo doo looks appetizing, imagine what a fig looks like? Don't tell them I told you, that's their dirty little secret. Figuratively and literally! Hehe Seriously though, one day I made the mistake of picking a raspberry and feeding it to them. As soon as they figured out they were edible it was all over! Now you have to look high and far from the fence to get berries. Needless to say they then observed me picking and eating figs and next thing you know, it's an all they can eat buffet. Comments (56)I live near Haddonfield, in Camden county, NJ and am trying my hand at growing figs for the first time this year. I got one tree (variety unknown - maybe Celeste?) at a local farmer's market last September. Per instructions I left it outside 'til the leaves fell and then wintered it over in the basement - but it started growing! Anxious to get it in the ground I made the mistake of planting it in the side yard (western exposure) in early April. We'd had some quite warm weather that fooled me into thinking spring had come early. It had not. The tree suffered terribly in a windstorm with sustained winds over 40 mph and the snow that hit a week later. losing all its leaves and killing the growing tips of all the shoots. The good news is that the tree sprouted new shoots from four of the five "trunks". It is now doing just fine and enjoying a bit of a growth spurt, although I'll be surprised if it yields any fruit this season. Today I purchased a second fig tree. This one is a Hardy Chicago from Lowe's. I put it into a 12" plastic pot where it will stay for at least the first year or so. I plan on bringing this one into my enclosed but unheated porch next winter. A friend and neighbor also has a fig tree of unknown variety that has survived one winter outdoors. Comments (45)Stem is long because plant wants more light. They are quite compact plants and under enough light will not grow long stems. Even if you behead it, it will grow same way unless it gets enough light. Do you keep plants outdoors during summer? If not, you really should consider supplemental lights otherwise all your succulents will grow stretched - etiolated. Plants in photo above didn't grow long stem since it is under lights; here it is when purchased (in this photo it is in small green plastic pot, just sitting on top of bigger pot): Compare to the photo in my previous post - it is not taller, just grew few rows of leaves (and it is growing inflorescence too). It may have been even bigger if I didn't knock it off the table few months ago & broke few leaves :( -damage still visible....See More- 6 years ago
