A Betty Crocker Dinner Party

Our Cookbook Book Club met Thursday evening and the theme was "Betty Crocker" -- it was at my house and I had fun with the theme! I used a white lace cloth and white napkins, but I did put my red and white Betty Crocker 50s cookbook as a centerpiece and used red flowers. Red "Betty Crocker" spoons were lined up down the table and those pamphlet BC cookbooks were scattered on the tabletop as well. Since there were 10, I used my Spode Blue Room (it goes in the dishwasher!)

As you can see -- many were much used and much loved:
We had a fun time and a lot of great food.

Comments (13)OA- I think we were both posting at the same time. Thanks. Sorry I missed you. Jeanne- We are having as good a summer as possible. It's been so much hotter than normal here with no rain for so long. Finally got some rain last night, but not nearly enough. I've been watering my flowers at least every other day and they are still pitiful. Wish mine looked as healthy and beautiful as the ones you sent me! :) But, we are happy and healthy. Blessed. J- Thank God for Sundays! I take Sundays off from the garden! Thanks for my Birthday wishes. Kathleen- Thanks. I still laugh when I remember you posting pics of your hydrangea blooms with the title of 'Big As Dinner Plates' to stay on topic!! So I know you understand my garden addiction! Jane- Miss you, too. I had a wonderful day with Alfred on my Birthday and today is his Birthday and we've spent the day together, too. Vacation Bible School all day. A great day for us with all of the kid stuff keeping us young until we got home and fell into the bed exausted! Just can't keep up with those young'uns!! We had a bowl of cereal for dinner! Sitting in bed. No tablescape! Lynn- Thanks. I've got to check in more often to see your pictures. I especially miss the beautiful outdoor ones. I'll probably never make it there and it is wonderful to get to share the beauty through your eyes. Creekdweller- Thanks. It was a wonderful day. Interesting name. Hi Luvs- It was a great day. Picked up rocks 'till we couldn't pick up anymore. I still need just a few more. When I get the garden in order, add a few more plants (and get some more rain) maybe I'll post a tablescape for the butterflies!! It's never failed me, although making the pastry on a hot, humid day was a challenge! We had so much fun. I thought it would be a nice change to actually see people around the table! Here's the gang, missing on our our DD's who surprised us later in the meal on her way home from New York. I was still cleaning up/putting things away today. We had weekend guests, who left today. We need all of the inspiration we can get. But, please don't use those words- get rid of some things. As soon as you do- you will need them for a tablescape! I think I posted that the space behind the sofa was 9'X14'. DH said it was only about 6'X14'. I just went and measured again and it is only 6'X14'. DRATS!! Oh well. I'll take what I can get. It won't be anything fancy. Anything is better than the jumble of boxes and bags piled in the floor that I have now! Karen, You make me laugh! I love my kitchen even though I live in a double-wide. It is small, but is white. I love the feeling I get when I walk in there in the morning. I have started trying more recipes since I found this forum. Kathleen started it all. Her Irish Soda Bread was the beginning. I followed her to the cooking forum and - OH MY!!!! The pictures they post on the "What's for Dinner" threads! Then I found all of the blogs with recipes galore! The only problem is, the extra money I'm spending on new ingredients I could be spending on dishes!! But, I've found that DH encourages me to buy new dishes more often when I fill them with good food!!! Even though he did raise his eyebrows PRETTY HIGH when I put 4 sets of the Target bird S/Ps in my basket! LOL Lee, Kathleen's DH cooks, too. And the pictures!!! That man can COOK! I believe I would rather have a man that cooks and use the pantry for food than dishes! I would climb those stairs for dishes If my DH would cook! Punk, Come on, Girl! Jump on in. My first tablescapes had very little on the table. Lots of open area!! And, it's sad but true. We can't get Karen to do a tablescape, yet. When you look at her house decorated so beautifully and can see the talent there.... But, we still have hope. After all, she did set a mighty fine tea that once! Comments (17)I made meatballs instead of hamburgers by adapting and expanding this recipe. It's for Hamburgers Walter Trohan and serves four (as hamburgers): 1 Lb. Ground Round 1 can (4 1/2 oz.) Deviled Ham Salt, Pepper Roquefort or Blue Cheese Dry Red Wine Butter Mix ground round and deviled ham. Add a *little* salt and freshly ground pepper to taste. Cut cheese into squares and mold meat around cheese. Marinate in red wine, covered, in refrigerator, for about 3 hours. Cook in butter plus a bit of the marinade. Remove to plate. Add remaining marinade to skillet and heat to a boil. Serve meat hot with marinade. (I put mine in a chafing dish for buffets.)...See More- 8 years ago
