Concern about thermostat wiring

I am concerned about the thermostat wiring in my new build. The HVAC guy designed a complicated system using Honeywell AQ250 series Hydronic Control Panels, two of them because there are eight zones, four in the lower (basement) level and four on the main floor. For three zones on each floor, PRO TH2000DV/TH1000DV series thermostats were selected, and for one zone on each floor, 9000 series WiFi thermostats are used. The system works fine, except that all of the thermostats are battery operated! Each of the thermostat wires all go to two terminals on one of the AQ250s, but no "C" wire was connected. Can you think of why? I'm concerned that the batteries will fail while I'm away, and I'll lose heat. I'm in northern NY and it gets cold here! This is a heat-only system, with in-floor electrically heated hydronic radiant heat.
