Am I Crazy? (New Purchase)
Comments (45)Thanks Patti. It is a lacquer plaque set made in Vietnam. It is painted on top of a layer of gold leaf in the background; then, covered with clear lacquer. There were larger sets but I love this set the most. It was small comparing to the sofa so I thought of building the frame to the back in order to make it look larger and more 3 dimensional. For the back frame, I used silk fabric to cover 1/2" thick plywood. I sprayed glue first to the wood so the fabric would stay flat, then stapled it to the back. I then, added 4 screws to mount the 4 lacquered plaques. If you're interested, the link below is from the vendor that I purchased it from. Of course, if you can travel to Vietnam, these would be much cheaper but if you don't know how they're made, you may end up poor quality lacquer arts. This vendor has lots of selections. I've purchased quite a few things from them through the years. Here is a link that might be useful: Lacquer sets made in Vietnam...See MoreWhat to do with throw pillows
Comments (31)I limit the pillows on my couches - I don't like pillows thrown on the floor to make room for people - seems silly and excessive. I do love a beautiful pillow and having only one or two by the arm allows you to actually see and enjoy and use them rather than a jumble of pillows tossed on the floor. I prefer to add a colorful or textured throw on a couch - it lies flat so it's not in the way but easy to grab on those chilly winter nights. Artwork and accessories are other areas to add color instead of depending on throw pillows. I agree with the others - they need to be washable and it's shocking how hard it is to find great pillows that can go in the washer/dryer....See MoreMixing Hardware Finishes - No Big Deal?
Comments (12)@historian, 'up till 11pm' pfft, that's nothing! I've regularly done a 2am obsessing about various 'bits'. . But he's, on the mix of finishes and metals etc, I've done it. Stages sink, kohler vinnata tap in polished chrome and antique pewter knobs. Stainless steel fridge and freezer ( inox finish so hope less fingerprints) . I'm almost all done decision wise. Cabinets being delivered this week, fitter coming on Monday morning. Granite firm coming up from London and I live in Somerset to template for our marble. ( hence the forum name!) they are about three hours away not far for the USA but in little UK, that's the width of the island in driving time! ( chalon kitchen in last house and they organised the granite and used this company and they did an amazing job) have my tap, sink etc all waiting here. Crossing everything that the company can get back Before Christmas to install the marble. Otherwise it'll be a Christmas with no sink and plywood counters from the template! i really like your handles love the antique pewter finish!...See MoreFurniture Advice for Living Room
