Hi Linda, Sorry for your problem. Dizziness is awful. Do you think you need a second opinion? Did you fall and hit your head before the dizziness started? Is there an ear-dizziness expert in your area? the doc I went to specialized in dizziness. Sometimes, it can be a problem with the otoliths in your inner ear. They are little pieces of gravel that help keep our balance. If they have gotten shaken out of place, you can remain dizzy. They are able to manipulate your head to get them back into place. I had sooooo much dizziness during perimenopause. It did seem to be related to my sinuses. I've heard alot of women going through perimenopause complain about their sinuses. I had a dizziness work up a couple years ago too. It started up after I had a colonoscopy. Long story short, it seemed to be caused by my GI tract losing all the good bacteria during the clean-out. After a couple months on a probiotic, the dizziness went away. I have since realized that when I abuse my GI tract, I get dizzy. Go figure. Anyhow......if I were you, I would get a second opinion. I can't make any promises, but I would be encouraged if I were you, that this might all correct itself, as you finish with perimenopause and stop having big fluctuations in your hormones. For others that might be interested: My story (Moni): I woke up one morning feeling like my whole room was spinning. Putting a foot down on the floor like when you had to much to drink did not help. I did manage to get to the bathroom, but then had a bad episode, and found myself on the floor. I wasn't sure, which way was up. All this, shortly after we had moved. I didn't have a Dr. yet. I didn't know, what was wrong with me. I kept laying down, some in front of the TV. Almost all my laying down was on my right side. Later I realized, my vertigo was brought on by laying on my right side. I sleep exclusively on my left side now. I don't toss or turn anymore. I used to wake up all queasy and sick to my stomach. When we got hold of a Dr. to see me right away, he said, I had Vertigo. He gave me a prescription for something, sorry I don't remember what, but I never filled it. He also suggested the exercises in the link up above, and said, the pills had a lot of side effects, and didn't work for everyone. When I got back home I tried to do the exercises, but got so violently sick when I first laid on my left side, that I had to sit up and fight throwing up. It took me two hours to do a whole set of the exercises that day. Since then, I am mostly fine, but have episodes when I have to do two or more sets of exercises daily. Ceiling fans, whipping your foot while sitting with crossed over legs, watching a train go by are just some of the things that can set me off. Oh, and sleeping in the same bed as Jerry. :) Really, HONEST! Jerry has restless leg syndrome and sleep apnea, and shakes the be almost all night long. Since we went to separate beds (but still in the same room) I haven't had very many episodes. All my troubles began in July 2001. Since then I have ridden my bicycle across the United States, from coast to coast, as well as several other long distance rides. No problems! I have suffered from vertigo episodes for most of my life but sometimes if I am lucky I can go a year without having severe episodes but that is few and far between. Mine all have to do with my ears. When I was a child my family Doctor would have my parents give me Dristan tablets, then I was put on a diuretic to get rid of the water in my body which I took for most of my life but a few years go took myself off because I was getting worried about the damage it might do to my kidneys. Since I stopped taking the diuretic I have more vertigo episodes. Worse feeling ever. Having to crawl on my hands and knees to get to the bathroom. I have prescription pills I take when I have an episode but they knock me right out which is good but one of the side effects for me is my brain feels itchy inside my head and you can't scratch it. Horrible feeling. Sometimes my vertigo can last a few weeks. I have to go to the Doctor to have him flush the wax from my ear, which comes out like hard stones. When my ears start to feel plugged I know I should go in but many times I don't and then I suffer for it when I become dizzy a few weeks later, My Doctor also does the head maneuvers on me which do help a lot and then I do them myself every few weeks on myself. I wouldn't wish vertigo on anyone.
