Comments (31)Here are some pics from Houzz that might give you some ideas. I love the blinds in the first on that hide the upper windows, but it's a pretty contemporary look. The interest on the ceiling along with the chandelier brings it down a bit. Comments (9)I have about that size dining room with walkways on all sides. In my previous house, I had a 48" square dining table that I used when we moved in. I bought a 48" round table, it was amazing the difference it made. There are only 3 of us so I just keep 3 chairs around the table on a daily basis. You could do a drop leaf. I am not sure it you could find one in a style that would go with your house. I have 2 drop leafs that I use around the house and bring out when I need more tables for company but they are both Duncan Phyfe antiques. Another option would be a round with a leaf or two that expands for family. You'll be amazed how a round fits the space better. Something about cutting off those sharp corners make it easier to maneuver through the rooms....See MoreNeed some help choosing Dining Room Chairs
Comments (11)Im really looking for guidelines- if there are any. IE should I look at a specific 'shape' of chair to compliment a 'barrel/oval shape table', (squared, rounded, etc), is a pop of color 'smart' ? chairs are so $$, what's the thinking on upholstery - leather, velvet craze, other material. if table is glass/metal is the 'convention' to stick with metallic legs, or does it matter ? for context: the style of the room/house is what I would call contemporary/modern - but defl'y not minimalist. The floors are 'wood look' tile - black with 'grayish' veins, the walls are dark grey, trim white. I just ordered table - italian, matte black glass top a 'golden' metal cage pedestal. any / all tips to get started on the hunt / help me narrow down appreciated....See MoreA small dining room needs big help
Comments (15)Ixnay on the allpaper-way. And don't put up new wallpaper either. It's just not versatile enough. If you want to change around your artwork, you are left with holes in your wallpaper, or huge fade marks. I just can't image why one wall is missing wainscoting. Was this a DIY job and someone ran out of steam or money? Accent walls are ridiculous. Period. When you can afford to put up the matching wainscoting on the remaining wall, please do so. Meanwhile please strip that awful wall paper and please be careful to not damage the wall underneath. Old wallpaper is not at all easy to remove, I've done it, and you want to be very slow and careful or you will have to do a ton of work repairing damage to the walls. If you paint the walls grey, please do a very light grey. Wood floors is a lovely idea, but not grey wood. That's too trendy and will be out of fashion in the blink of an eye. Pick wood that is warm in color that looks like wood with a warm color stain that goes with the wood in the rest of the house....See Moredecoenthusiaste
