6 yr old boy bedroom ideas? Please?
Comments (17)I just painted me boys' room, age 6 and 3. I wanted something fun and bright, but was hestitant to go with a theme because they will outgrow it before I have time to paint again. I did a really rich blue wall (medium to dark color - I just found a blue shirt I really liked, then used it to pick a paint color.) The blue really pops with the trim I painted white, their white dresser and warm pine colored beds. Then, I painted 3 stripes about 1 foot from the ceiling - thin white (about 1 inch thick), then a thin band of the wall color, then red (about 10 inches thick), then a band of the wall color, then thin white again. It goes all the way around the room, and adds some serious pizzaz and helps to make the space appear larger. I did the same stripe in my last house at chair rail height, and stenciled some Dr Seuss words on it for a more juvenile effect. You could stencil any shapes you wanted, or use those wall stickups if you wanted a theme. Then I added red/blue plaid quilts, and some fun artwork, some red/blue striped curtains with white curtain rod, etc. It is super cute and they won't outgrow it anytime soon, I hope! To the person looking for surfboards, I saw one seller who makes them on ebay if you search, and they are super cute. I looked at her surfboards and ended up just making my own with plywood and a jigsaw. Not that hard of a project, and I was able to personalize them for my girls....See MoreBoys Bedroom 90% Done - WWYD windows?
Comments (19)Thank you for all the kind feedback. My plan is to make the window treatments myself. I have so-so sewing skills. I think I can pull it off. After my original post I was at Target and saw blackout panels in the dark blue of the bedding. I grabbed two of them and I think I will cut one in half to make narrow, stationary panels on each side of the window to block the cracks, and then use the other to make the valance for the top of the window. The existing shade is not going to be replaced. I didnâÂÂt specify that in the original post. I love the applique idea, Annie, but IâÂÂm not sure what I would use. I havenâÂÂt had luck finding any of the patterns from the quilts, and to be honest, IâÂÂm tired of looking. Baby #3 is due in 10 days so I hope to get this done before the big arrival. IâÂÂm leaning towards just adding a red stripe(s) to the panels and the valance to brighten the pieces. Chestnut3: The headboards were so simple to do, and IâÂÂve never done a project like it before. I bought all of the supplies to force myself to do it, but was afraid to begin. But once I got going it was very simple. I used the video linked below as a starting point. If you do a Google search there are many instructional videos/blogs. They all pretty much do it the same way. I didnâÂÂt use foam because it was so expensive. Instead I used cheap mattress covers from Walmart for the padding. For a kids room it is okay, but if I were to make a larger headboard I think I would spring for the thick foam. I also skipped the batting because my fabric is pretty thick. Spray adhesive did nothing to help - skip it. Cut the wood to size and predrill holes if you want to add buttons. I also measured and marked where the hanging hardware would be. I used a French cleat from Home Depot on each headboard and they are very sturdy. I wrapped the padding about 3 inches around the backside of the wood and stapled it securely. Lots of staples! Then I wrapped the fabric about 4 inches over the backside so it covered all of the padding. Staple like crazy again, pulling it smooth as you go. The buttons were made using a button kit from JoannâÂÂs and I added them to the headboard using the jumbo needles (upholstery needles?) and string. I anchored the string to the back with more staples. My headboards are very tight to the wall because of all the padding and fabric. I imagine thicker padding and fabric would force one to have to build out the cleat so it can grab the wall cleat. Good luck. It was a fun project and only took a few hours once I got started. Oh - if you want to do stripes on the wall, Frog Tape is the way to go. Here is a link that might be useful: Upholstered headboard...See MoreBoys Budget Bedroom Makeover (Pics)
Comments (17)Kimberly & Oneplustwo, I'd say that the wall color leans slightly to the blue side when you put bolder colors w/ it like the red, white & blue color scheme going on now. When the rm. was empty & it was just the white shades, white trim, cream area rug & some white furniture it seemed more sophisticated & leaned less toward blue more towards gray. This rm. was our MBR originally & after the reno was done (as far as it's gotten) & painted, I nearly moved back into the rm. I'd just go in there by myself & sit & be quiet. The color is an old Lowes color that I think is by the Valspar manufacturer. It's called Silverware. They still have it in their computer & in the old fandeck that they have behind the counter. A close BM color is Blue Lace. Teacats, I found some wonderful posters that I have my eye on! Thank you! Les, Love the idea of maps on the ceiling. In fact I have quite a few framed antique & reproduction maps including a huge wall sized one dug out of an old one rm. schoolhouse that my FIL was working on. I've been looking for a hanging place for them & I think that after your suggestion I've found the spot in the upstairs hallway. The old soft colors will really tie the upstairs rms. together. DH stopped at the shop & made the slats for the beds yesterday on his way home (that was the fastest he ever get furniture fixed for me!) & here are the headboards. Now I just have to get a mattress set this wk. & get the beds put together: I love those beds so much that I asked DH to work w/ my dad between workshops to make a king sized version for me in black. It was midnight when I asked so I'll see if he even remembers. You can hardly see it in any of the pics but there is also an old horse drawn wagon seat bench that DH re-finished that is the perfect size for little kids to sit on. Somebody didn't want it anymore & just dropped it off at the shop. My kids love it! Now that my camera battery is recharged I will have to take a pic of that & the toy bench that my dad made once DS2 gets up. DS1 who normally talks me ever-lovin' ears off was speechless when he saw it! He said that he loved it & I got a big bear hug & lots of "I love you's'. He even played w/ his little brother fight free for a few hours in it before we had to leave for a car club banquet....See MoreNeed help redecorating boys bedroom
