What a great room for your boys. You really know how to find bargains and of course all your hard work of painting and hanging things really has paid off. I cannot see the trunk your dad made. Maybe when your batteries have been charged , you can try to get another shot of that.
How long before the little one is out of crib.

DS1 LOVES hot rods & old cars. His Pop Pop collects, restores & shows antique & classic MG's as his hobby so old cars are right up DS1's alley.

Bungalowhouse - Can you believe that I found those pooh classics back when the oldest was born? DH loves Pooh so I have a fair amt. of old Pooh stuff.

Teacats - thanks for the link. I think that a large vintage poster would look wonderful on the big empty wall beside his bed. Maybe something w/ a big hit of red.

Lyban - the youngest will be out of the crib as soon as those slats are made for antique beds I got yesterday! Baby #3 is due in September so he needs to get out soon! I am happy to have inherited my mom's bargain hunting gene. Thankfully I didn't inherit her 'Too Much Stuff' gene!

I was really looking for something that they could grow w/ but that they would really be interested in. It was hard keeping all of the boxes & bags under wraps until now. It's been yrs. since DH & I could get to the back of our closest & corners of our bedroom because I was stashing stuff for so many yrs. Probably the only time in my life I was ever so focused!

What an imaginative room for two young boys. Lucky boys have a wonderful mom!! Love those flying machines. They're great.

I love that "baby #3 is going to be here soon so other son needs to get out of baby bed." That's too funny!!! If nothing else, your timing is good. LOL

What a cute room! I'll bet the boys love it. Are the walls blue or grey, I can't tell on my monitor, although they seem to lean blue....

Please share the paint color you chose! I am looking at paint colors for my twin sons' "big boy" bedroom, and just love the color! My boys are 4.5 years too. What a great job you did for the room!

Wondering if you thought about putting old road maps or atlas pages on the ceiling. A fun thing for them to ponder from their beds.

Oh you are clever. That is a brilliant room! What I especially like is that you kept the wall color muted, something that IMO is important in children's rooms. The many wonderful accessories are shown off so well.

Les - when our elder DS was around ten, he had us put an enlarged photo of Einstein on the ceiling above his bed. It stayed there until he left for college.

I want to know - how did the boy's react when they viewed this awesome room!?

I'd say that the wall color leans slightly to the blue side when you put bolder colors w/ it like the red, white & blue color scheme going on now. When the rm. was empty & it was just the white shades, white trim, cream area rug & some white furniture it seemed more sophisticated & leaned less toward blue more towards gray. This rm. was our MBR originally & after the reno was done (as far as it's gotten) & painted, I nearly moved back into the rm. I'd just go in there by myself & sit & be quiet.
The color is an old Lowes color that I think is by the Valspar manufacturer. It's called Silverware. They still have it in their computer & in the old fandeck that they have behind the counter. A close BM color is Blue Lace.

Love the idea of maps on the ceiling. In fact I have quite a few framed antique & reproduction maps including a huge wall sized one dug out of an old one rm. schoolhouse that my FIL was working on. I've been looking for a hanging place for them & I think that after your suggestion I've found the spot in the upstairs hallway. The old soft colors will really tie the upstairs rms. together.

DH stopped at the shop & made the slats for the beds yesterday on his way home (that was the fastest he ever get furniture fixed for me!) & here are the headboards. Now I just have to get a mattress set this wk. & get the beds put together:

I love those beds so much that I asked DH to work w/ my dad between workshops to make a king sized version for me in black. It was midnight when I asked so I'll see if he even remembers.

You can hardly see it in any of the pics but there is also an old horse drawn wagon seat bench that DH re-finished that is the perfect size for little kids to sit on. Somebody didn't want it anymore & just dropped it off at the shop. My kids love it! Now that my camera battery is recharged I will have to take a pic of that & the toy bench that my dad made once DS2 gets up.

DS1 who normally talks me ever-lovin' ears off was speechless when he saw it! He said that he loved it & I got a big bear hug & lots of "I love you's'. He even played w/ his little brother fight free for a few hours in it before we had to leave for a car club banquet.

Robyn, I almost painted the boys rm. tan! It was a last minute decision to keep the current color. I even looked at a quilt at TJ Maxx yesterday just like the plaid one in the pic you posted & had 2nd thoughts. I think I'm going back to get it now after seeing this pic. Thanks!
