Comments (1)Try not to place another "tall" piece next to the fireplace. The 2 visual heights will compete and through the room off balance. Perhaps an all glass shelved cabinet would work, but, it would be best to find a great looking 36+ high chest/cabinet with a mirror or tall piece of art above. They now make faux chests that flat screen TVs sit in and then raise out of when watching is desired. I would try that. It will create wonderful interest and add to the focal point of the fireplace instead of competing....See MoreUsing a Buffet as Entertainment Center?
Comments (9)funkyart and patricia43, I LOVE these boards, what a wealth of information and ideas, thanks to you! I had never heard of the infrared repeater thingie. Wonderful! That will solve the problem for the Tivo remote usage and I'll check with the seller to get the measurements for the side compartments. The washed wood of the piece will blend in with our family room furniture so it will be kept as it is. We had a darling petite armoire for the old TV, but alas, hubby wanted a bigger TV that doesn't fit in the armoire and now the furniture placement in the room is all out of kilter. Patricia43, my folks had a similar credenzas in the 60's. Your friend is clever to find another use for her piece. I'd love a coffee bar! Again, much thanks :) linda...See MoreLooking for advice on pricing for a customer entertainment center
Comments (3)Figure out the cost of materials, the cost of your labor, and mark up from there. If you can find something similar, online or in person, you can get an idea of what something like that sells for but there are a lot of variables (quality of materials and workmanship, for example)....See MoreNeed advice on how to center entertainment center
Comments (19)We are for sure doing away with the black trim! Lightening everything up! This house was added on to several times, which is why the layout isn’t what one would consider ideal. The wall with the large opening/thick black trim was actually an exterior wall at one point (the room in question didn’t exist then). At a point after that, the wall that will have the entertainment center was an exterior wall. Then they added the master suite onto that which is the doorway to the right of the entertainment center. I like the “open” concept with the large opening, but I also realize that comes to the detriment of easy furniture placement decisions. Only 2 doorways into the living room. One from the dining room, one from the master bedroom....See MoreBeverlyFLADeziner
