We are for sure doing away with the black trim! Lightening everything up! This house was added on to several times, which is why the layout isn’t what one would consider ideal. The wall with the large opening/thick black trim was actually an exterior wall at one point (the room in question didn’t exist then). At a point after that, the wall that will have the entertainment center was an exterior wall. Then they added the master suite onto that which is the doorway to the right of the entertainment center. I like the “open” concept with the large opening, but I also realize that comes to the detriment of easy furniture placement decisions. Only 2 doorways into the living room. One from the dining room, one from the master bedroom.

My first thought is to put backing on the open cabinet on the left. My 2d thought is to remove the top shelf on the left, and possibly the top 2 shelves. I would put only books behind the glass doors, and I would fill that cabinet completely with books, some laid horizontally if need be. And then I would be very careful with what I chose to display on the left, to emphasize it is a DISPLAY cabinet, not a STORAGE cabinet. By emphasizing the different functions, I think no one would expect symmetry. Weighty solid things should go on the bottom shelves of the left cabinet. Things with details that are best appreciated at eye level should be displayed at eye level. But overall I would favor larger objects on display and very few small ones. If you create open space on the top of the left cabinet by removing shelves, display things with vertical height, like a badminton racket, a ukelele, or a giraffe, etc.

IMO way to much heavy looking stuff in a very small space . I would remove the stuff above the FP and the entertainment center Hang a piece of art above the mantel, get a low shallow cabinet an wall mount the TV at the proper viewing height above thta cabinet. The proper height is center of screen at eye level when seated .You might be able to just remove the top part of the entertainment center and keep those bottom cabinets , it is hard to tell. I also would be looking at removing the desk area at some point. Taht whole thing above the mantel needs to go for sure and you do not choose any wall color before all the rest is decided.

Hi! I need some ideas on what to put on the walls around the TV stand. I do not want it to look cluttered. But I would love to put some family pictures up. How should I display them? Frames? How many? What color? Thanks for your help!
